List of advice columns without the stuff around them (adverts etc) for use in readlang etc. Potentially good - colloquial Cebuano, similar themes, language.

Tambagi ko Noy Kulas
Talk to Papa Joe
Tambagi ko Noy Tikyo
Sugilanon
Kalingawan
Heartline
Vallena
Daclan
Basil
Tita Heart

Search for "site:www.sunstar.com.ph Tambagi ko Noy Kulas" on google gets hundreds of results, probably similar for all others - so I think I now have thousands of colloquial Cebuano articles around 4-600 words. Much better than the Bible which is very formal and old fashioned language.

28 minutes video Ra Sabah

Big grammar session on receiver focus sentences (previously done actor and object, so I can now compare and contrast - but I might still have location to come). I also added questions to the sentences - "Who" for receiver.

I think I'm finally edging towards a grammar breakthrough when I break things down during reading or writing, but a long way from automatic in listening, or speaking.

Nothing for SuperChallenge but translated an English advice column to Bisaya. Yet to be reviewed by a native speaker.

I may apply this to language learning - https://www.sjbaker.org/humor/cardboard_dog.html
"majority of the benefit is gained by the person doing the explaining (the Walkthrough-er) and little if any contribution comes from the person who is supposed to be listening (the Walkthrough-ee)." - I'll explain it to myself (mumble, email) as if I was talking to someone else - perhaps others so this already?

Probably not related - just fancied posting it to look at later... https://www.datapacrat.com/Opinion/Reci ... index.html

It's been a long time, no post.

Lots of things at home and work.

Open University courses
L161 Language/Culture - last assignment submitted.
L194 Basic Spanish - last big assignment, just a tiny one left in June.

Both had been neglected so I had to dedicate a full day for one and a half day for Spanish. Did a huge amount of catch up - 6-8 weeks of study plus the assignments in each. Felt exhausted after (compounded by work, cold).

"How to Improve Your Foreign Language Immediately" – by Boris Shekhtman - book arrived. First couple of chapters read and notes taken.

Key concepts:
Language Islands - jotted down a plan as notes in the book.
Baiting - restart staled conversations
Be verbose, don't let conversation turn nto an interrogation by the native speaker
Linking strategies as stepping stones to islands

Spanish
L194 assignment (250 word email about studying in Spain)

Cebuano
A few learning language videos (in English/Cebuano). Some speaking most days. My child knows a lot more. I said I was going to get 'Pala hubog' on a works night out and he knew it was 'drunk'. Really surprised he knew this. Seems to know lots more now. Tutor unavailable and I was busy too. 6 weeks to visit now so I should get practicing.

SuperChallenge Ceb - nothing done recently. I want to combine this with my language islands - write, refine, read (lots), ask native speaker to record, me watch, practice.
