The current 2016/17 Superchallenge ends 31 December. I just assumed a new one would start in January.

ETA. Actually that may be helpful, it means I have a few months to see if the SC targets are manageable.

I am going to start a new long for 2018. This log has largely been about me finishing courses, encouraging me to continue with my Spanish studies despite my terrible progress and also to find some direction.

I need to continue into 2018 with the focused learning I finally achieved at the end of this year.

I will end this log with the totals from my 2017 challenge over the next couple of weeks.

Friday update:
16 hours Italki lessons: 0
Writing 8000 words: 961 this week (7798 total)
Glossika GSR 1: 0
Podcasts: Intermediate Notes in Spanish: 0
Anki 241 sentences: Mature 109

Been a busy week, still manged to keep on top of Anki everyday and write enough this week...I am so close to my 8000 target :D

Had an interesting thing happen yesterday.....my first proper telephone conversation totally in Spanish :o
My telephone line has a fault and the technician called me to come over and look at it. Normally I just freak out when the phone rings and I spit out "no hablo español" and then they hang up! I'm not good on the phone in any language.

However I knew who it was and I really needed him to come over and fix the phone (I had no phone or internet) , he was on his mobile and I could hardly hear him but I dug deep and attempted to speak totally in Spanish.

I managed to explain the fault on my line and give him direction to my house (no easy task, as my road has no name and I live at the end of maze of tracks). He asked if he could come over that day and I then managed to explain that I had to go out at 2:30 but that before that would be ok. He said he'd be over in 5 mins and checked my instructions to my house with me.

He turned up on my driveway a few minutes later!!!! I nearly cried I was so happy he'd understood me (and I'd understood him) and he had no idea why I was so pleased to see him

Oh and he fixed the fault.

Thanks DaveBee and AndyMeg!

I am really happy to see the improvement that forcing myself to take just a few ITalki sessions over the last few months has had on my confidence when speaking Spanish.

It has made this year's final output push seem like it wasn't one of my more pointless endeavours and is something I must continue with in the New year.

It has also made me realise that aiming too high (and never quite reaching my goals) doesn't really matter, if by doing so I accomplish something that I wouldn't have otherwise.
