Yeah in my experience people prefer French, but considering I worked for a Flemish organization I spoke Dutch.

I lived in Etterbeek, it was pretty all right. Close to all the embassies, also one metro stop away from Maalbeek. (I passed that station every day on my way to work).

Today I am in a nostalgic mood.
My first steps towards English fluency 25 years ago

Gelukkig nieuwjaar, happy new year and sana saeeda to all of you! I hope your new year's resolutions will come true! I haven't posted in a way, but I haven't stopped studying.
I have only two more chapters to go in Syrian Arabic A Functional Course. My dear parents and my husband have given me money for my 30th anniversary, so I can continue to work with my tutor! They are the best. Apart from the book, my tutor and I work with headlines, which I really like.
I have also finished my first French novel: No et moi. For my French courses, I had to read only newspapers. Most of you probably know the book, but it is really good read. Lou is a highly gifted schoolgirl who has to write a paper for her secondary school civic class. She meets and interviews Nol, a 18-year old girl who lives on the streets of Paris.
She really wants to help No and even covinces her parents to let No stay with them. However, she soon finds out that Nol is damaged and helping her is easier said than done.
Spanish and I are still exploring each other. I am working with a Dutch book: Spaans voor Zelfstudie.
My goal for 2017 is simply to devote more hours to language learning. Unfortunately, I am unemployed at the moment, so I need "my" languages to keep me busy and to keep me sane.
