Re: Olekander's Russian - Log
I just found a nice word I'd never heard before: деться to disappear. I normally use исчезать. I'm going to try and use деться in the future and see how my interlocutors respond!

Thanks for the addition! I didn't know that word unsurprisingly, but a little rummaging around provided me with some more info. Apparently it's rather colloquial, and can be used in the following situations
"де́ться • (détʹsja) pf (imperfective дева́ться)
1.(colloquial) to disappear, get (to another place)
Куда́ де́лись мои́ очки́?
Where did I put my glasses?, What did I do with my glasses?
2.(colloquial) to put oneself, to go away
Она́ не зна́ла, ку́да де́ться от стыда́.
She did not know where to put herself for embarrassment.
Куда́ мне де́ться?
Where shall I go? Where can I hide?
не́куда де́ться ― there is nowhere to go

I gotta say (not that you asked) that I'd recommend studying other points of grammar. This using было with other verbs like that...well, that's just so strange and so rarely used (in my experience)...
Again, your log and your study plan, so take my recommendation with a grain of salt.
One thing I will strongly recommend, however, (because I've seen it screw people up in the past) is to always study the verb pairs in the same order, meaning either imperfective/perfective or the other way around.
In your list above, you have:
растворить, растворять - burst open, open quickly [also means "to solve"]
бранить, забранить - to curse [I think only in the perfective, other "to scold" and the perfective of бранить is выбранить
In the first, you have the perfective then imperfective. In that latter, you have it switched. That could come back to bite you later.

Re: Olekander's Russian - Log
деться is a super common verb. I'd even use it in different situations like "where am I to go?" when you are desperate, or even something like никуда не денусь "I'm not leaving/I'm not going anywhere, I'll still be here"

Re: Olekander's Russian - Log
Was talking with some Kyrgyz today about my newly found word деться and they gave me an awesome phrase: Куда ты денешся с подводкой лодки? The feeling the phrase gives is "How are you going to escape this duty?" or "How are you going to get out of (doing) it?" Absolutely love it.
деться may be super common where you're at tarvos, but I gotta say, in20+ 30 years (crap I'm old) of using Russian throughout (east) Germany, U.S., Alaska (crap-ton of Russians), Russia (Moscow and environs) and now Central Asia, I've never heard it. (Doesn't mean it isn't used, конечно, just not heard/recognized by me.)

Re: Olekander's Russian - Log
It's a very colloquial verb. My Russian experience is nearly always colloquial language and most people I know have used it more than a few times. I don't know what they teach in DLI, but the thing is that nearly all my interlocutors are around my age and thus use a slightly different subset of vocabulary.
