It was a group learning project back in 2016.

2023 - Summary of week 11

Reading. At work, there was some focus on national minorities. That sparked some interest in Romani and Yiddish - two of the languages represented during a lecture. Some of the Yiddish books we have at the library are written in the Hebrew script. Saturday evening I went to a metal concert - four bands, each doing a short demo gig, then a bonus at the end with a local black metal band (with lyrics in Gutamål - the dialect/minority language in my area). Today I started and finished Binti by Nnedi Okorafor. It's the first sf-novella in a series of three.

ES: I finished Aventuras de Sherlock Holmes, downloaded Balada de la cárcel de Reading by Oscar Wilde, and then La caja de amatista
by Anna Katharine Green.

2023 - Summary of week 12

Reading. Some Swedish crime, one graphic novel. The TV series Das Haus der Träume and the film Der Fall Collini tuned my ears into German again. At a restaurant earlier today I heard people speak French.

ES: I downloaded El caso Leavenworth by Anna Katharine Green.

When this type of thing happens, do you try to discretely listen in?

If I'm within earshot, yes. (And I was. They sat at the table next to me. I can't say that I levelled up, though.)

2023 - Summary of week 13

No books finished this week. After a long break from pretty much everything, I joined the gaming group again for Mansions of Madness. This time we played one of the homebrew scenarios, The Lair of Rim Shaikorth. Investigators: Norman Withers, Father Mateo, Marie Lambeau, Ursula Downs and Michael McGlen against... no spoilers.
Ursula got Wounded. AND Insane. Then Father Mateo got Wounded. Then Norman Withers... In the penultimate turn, Ursula died.
A really good scenario. 7/10

I finished the first season of Das Haus der Träume. At a restaurant earlier today I saw the same French-speaking people as last week. Maybe our weekend schedules are similar. :o

ES: More Librivox.

2023 - Summary of week 14

Reading. A few books and graphic novels finished this week. One title was Straff by Ann-Helén Laestadius who is a Swedish Sami journalist and writer. Her previous novel, Stöld won the award Book of the Year in 2021. During the weekend I finished watching the second season of Das Haus der Träume. The week ended with some fiddle playing at a friend's house. Donegal repertoire, for the win.

ES: More Librivox.

2023 - Summary of week 15

Reading. I started my first John Grisham novel - Tid för barmhärtighet (EN: A Time for Mercy). This is the third novel about Jake Brigance who is the main character in A Time to Kill and Sycamore Row. Two thirds into the story, I like it a lot. I have watched the first five episodes of the 7th season of Shetland. Also half-way through Foyle's War (great!). This afternoon I played fiddle (and box) with a friend.

ES: More Librivox.

Recently misread topics:
Another Spaniard Learning American 2023 (correct: Another Spanish Learning American 2023)
Is Dreaming in Spanish massively inefficient? (correct: in)
