2022 - Summary of week 50

In time. The week started with a storm/blizzard/whatever. I got a sore throat, a mild cold, chills (and more), and on top of that I was under pressure. As always, real life was in the way. One thing got solved sooner than expected, and I managed to postpone the other thing till the beginning of January. (By the way, no more work this year.) One book finished: Sluten - a biography about Robin Söderling, tennis player. I'm not into the sport at all but read the whole thing (~290 pages) in 90 minutes. Yesterday I practiced fiddle for maybe 1 hour. It felt great.

IT: More Easy Italian.

Back to the chaos.

2022 - Summary of week 51

In time. The cold/whatever didn't disappear. Many hours were spent on logistics. I almost slipped on the icy street but managed to slow down the fall. Still a sore wrist. Many books finished, including Skuggläge by Kristina Ohlsson (Swedish crime, the third part in her latest series), and the personal classic Of Dice and Men by David M. Ewalt.

Christmas Eve was as dismal as one could expect. Too many memories of lost ones. I fixed a flat bike tire after breakfast, paid a visit to the cemetary, had dinner in the afternoon, watched some TV... eventually bit the bullet and went to Midnight Mass for the first time in my life. There were people there! Apparently I wasn't the last person on earth.

IT: More Easy Italian. I scoured sites with free audiobooks and found Liber Liber. I downloaded a few Edgar Allan Poe stories to accompany me on my walks for the rest of this year.

2022 - Summary of week 52A

52A = 31 December

In time. Still spending time on logistics. Doing that reminds me of my post in the topic How do you find things to read?. The latest video from Professor Arguelles also reminded me of my collection of language material.

I got rid of the cold. The wrist is still sore. Besides languages, I'm planning my non-challenge version of The 2023 Polyglot Fitness Challenge.

Some of the books I finished this week include Natural Born Heroes by Chris McDougall, Insats pågår by Michael Fetz, the play (!) Terror by Ferdinand von Schirach, and The library : a world history by James W. P. Campbell.

By coincidence I bumped into native speakers of Kazakh and Italian at a charity shop nearby. Sometimes I hear Somali there.

IT: Edgar Allan Poe. On the 1st of January, there will be a new language.

You read a lot. How many books do you read in a year?

More than 100, no matter how I count. A lot more than that if I include audiobooks, and anything else that counts as a title by any decent definition, has an ISBN etc.

Anki summary for 2022

I mistakenly did my reviews for Portuguese and Czech before checking the number of cards. These are the remaining numbers:

cs: ?
esperanto: 38
fi: 2
ga: 5
kernewek: 1
mandarin: 44
pt: ?
ro: 7
tp: 1
yue: 12

Not too different from last year's stats for the 1st of January. Most (if not all) cards are pushed more than one year into the future.

2022 - Summary of week 52B

52B = 1 January

Not much happened on the first day of the year besides moving bag after bag. (One day I might catalogue everything... or not.)

ES: Yes. The new language for this year is Spanish. I downloaded La vuelta al mundo en ochenta dias by Jules Verne. A little more than 9 hours long, so I will have finished it by the end of week 1. The narrator is Victor Villaraza (Argentina) who has recorded quite a few titles for Librivox.

2023 - Summary of week 1

Not much happened during this first full week of the year. I was back at work, and was busy moving things (to the extent that I had sore muscles for many days - as if I'd been exercising). Again, I'm shocked at the amount of books I almost didn't know that I had.
Examples:
Bosanski jezik by Senahid Halilović.
Image
Gramatika bosanskoga jezika by Dzevad Jahić, Senahid Halilović and Ismail Palić.
Image

ES: I finished La vuelta al mundo en ochenta dias and started La isla del tesoro by Robert Louis Stevenson. A little more than 11 hours. Same narrator.
