2024 - Summary of week 7

Time for a late update. Reading. One book finished - a so-so early compilation of H. P. Lovecraft stories in Swedish - Skräckens labyrinter. I also started reading a Sebastian Fitzek thriller - The Child (DE: Das Kind). I got it from the book exchange cupboard last summer.

By chance, I watched the first episode of Fantastiska världar - Från Carroll till Tolkien (original: Wonderland: From JM Barrie to JRR Tolkien). Three episodes left.

DE: More Librivox.

The Goethe eLibrary have a "most loaned" section on their homepage, Mr Fitzek is currently Top of the Pops with Der Heimweg.

Thanks! It seems that it has been translated into Swedish → something for the local library.

2024 - Summary of week 8

Reading. Another H.P. Lovecraft book finished - Cthulhu 2 - a Swedish translation of short stories that (I think) are taken from the original Cthulhu. I finished the Fitzek thriller and started one by Michel Bussi - Never forget (FR: N'oublier jamais).

I watched the second episode of Fantastiska världar - Från Carroll till Tolkien.

DE: More Librivox. More reading (Daheim).

UK: No, I haven't started another language, but at some point on Saturday afternoon I opened my copy of Colloquial Ukrainian - possibly for the first time. It came with cassettes. Who knows, the audio might be available online these days.

No idea whether this matches with your text Jeff, but perhaps this: https://routledgetextbooks.com/textbooks/colloquial/language/ukrainian.php

Indeed it does! That's the website I had in mind. Thanks for reminding me of it!

2024 - Summary of week 11

Reading. Galaxies Like Grains of Sand by Brian W. Aldiss - a science fiction collection of short stories. Avgrunden by David Baldacci - the second book in his series about Travis Devine.

I went to the Saturday concert as usual, and earlier today I attended St John Passion BWV 245. Somehow I miss a piece that we played when I was part of the local orchestra. Could we have had access to a "director's cut" version of the work? :? Just before the concert started I spoke some Esperanto with one of the local polyglots (the only one I ever speak Esperanto with).

2024 - Summary of week 12

Reading.

I went to the Saturday concert as usual (piano + saxophone; both soprano and tenor), and then to the book fair in town. I met friends, and listened to two lectures. One was about modern book publishing, things one shouldn't overlook as regards typesetting, e.g. kerning, leading, gutter, readability ... The lecturer also highlighted quotation marks, dashes, hyphen-minuses and more.
