Hi! I've only been into the language for about three months (my 16th week starts today), and I've used a variety of resources with no real "method". StringerBell recommended your site a while ago.

So far, I've only listened to the first lesson a couple of times, but I like the format. The lesson isn't too long (but still long enough to make it more interesting than, say, a bunch of phrases), and it has audio. Comprehensible input is good. Text + audio is also good.

2019 - Summary of week 38

IT: More content from Italiano Automatico.

NO: More podcasts - one of the most recent ones was about a brutal killing (true crime).

PL: More work with the Natural Method. More youtube videos. First Year - 4.A. Coś takiego. The ERIC file - lesson 16. I heard the language in town.

There are many languages I usually don't say that I speak. French is one of them. Nevertheless, the other day a French speaking visitor was struggling with a short message he had got. It was written in (misspelled) Spanish. I think I did alright.

A bunch of Chinese movies:

Snake in Monkey's Shadow - English dubbing (no doubt the same group of voice actors as in the Snake in Eagle's Shadow)
Thundering Mantis - English dubbing (Cockney)
Sleeping Fist - Cantonese audio, English subtitles
The Victim - Cantonese audio, English subtitles
City of Life and Death - Mandarin and Japanese audio (some lines in English and German)
Star Runner - Cantonese audio, English subtitles (plus some Korean lines here and there)

I don't count movies as study, though.

More Cantonese content - I watched The Police Story, then I started watching the TV series Wing Chun from 2007. It has 40 episodes, ~44 minutes each.

This week: episodes 4-7 of Wing Chun. I don't know what is powering what, but lately there has been more martial arts practice, more reading about martial arts, and more Mandarin and Cantonese movie content. (The only missing ingredient is actual language study. )

This week: episodes 8-11 of Wing Chun. I watched the first episode on Riget (the Danish mini series from 1994). I spent the weekend in Gothenburg. Besides meeting new and old friends, I played music in sessions and listened to concerts. I also had the best Chinese food in a long time.

NO: I finished another podcast series. You need good skills to be able to follow unscripted conversations in a target language. Iversen has mentioned the Swedish comedy show Parlamentet (or for that matter, teenagers on the bus). I like this kind of rapid fire Norwegian.

PL: More youtube videos. More content from Ioannes Oculus. First Year - 4.E. Nowe mieszkanie. The ERIC file - lesson 20. I don't think I'll continue with this one.

This week: episodes 12-15 of Wing Chun. Another episode of Riget.

This week: only one episode of Wing Chun (#16). I watched the second half of The Empress (a.k.a. The Banquet) which I started a few weeks ago (Audio: Mandarin). I once understood two sentences in a row.

Time for a late update.

NO: The podcast series isn't over yet. I like the variety of accents. Seeing that the TV series Lykkeland will disappear from SVTPlay just before midnight on the 6th of November, I've made an effort to catch up. Still a few episodes left.

This week: Wing Chun #17+18. I also watched a Mandarin language movie, set in 9th century China - The Assassin.

NO: I finished the podcast series (18 episodes, I think). At the end, it didn't feel like another language. I binge-watched 6-7 episodes in a few days. I think I heard two characters in the whole series who spoke something else than Stavanger-mål.

NO: I started and finished a true crime, then started a radio drama where all episodes hadn't yet been published, then continued with an old humour podcast series from 2004. I also watched the first two episodes of the drama/thriller Twin.

This week: Wing Chun #20-21. I also watched the last four episodes of Riget. I recognized many actors from Matador, plus a few from Rejseholdet, Badehotellet and Bedrag.
