2021 - Summary of week 38
Time for an extremely late update. A huge pile of books - nothing finished. I had a second go at Eldritch Horror, it went much faster this time. Loss again. (I played a handful of games the same week, and lost every single one.) Thursday evening, it was time for another session of Mansions of Madness with the group. Another lost game.
FR: More podcasts from InnerFrench.
NL: More Loyal Books content.
Language-wise I'm still doing Perl exercises. Occasionally I run into an Esperanto speaker at work. Still no time for L-R.

2021 - Summary of week 39
Time for an another late update. A huge pile of books - two finished. One was The Shaolin Grandmasters' Text - a book discussing the history, philosophy and fighting systems of Shaolin. I found the chapters about the kung fu systems very interesting. The other book I finished was Amazon: bakom framgången by Julia Lindblom.
I finished the first run through Eldritch Horror and have now used all twelve investigators in a solo game. I will introduce it to the group in the future. Thursday evening, we were supposed to play something (I can't remember what) but had to change plans last second. Instead, we played the 2009 edition of Tales of the Arabian Nights, a board game with some (dated) "choose your own game" mechanics. A lot of flipping through the Book of Tales. If only someone created an app for it...

2021 - Summary of week 40
Another late update. Finished books: four in Swedish, one in English (that was the third Drizzt novel). I've started reading The Spirit of Shaolin, which is an autobiography by David Carradine.
Thursday evening, we played another scenario of Mansions of Madness - this time with an all-female group of investigators. Finally victory! At home base, I had a first go at Pathfinder Adventure Card Game: Skull & Shackles. (I bought it just a few days before Christmas. Then life came in the way.)
NL: More Loyal Books content.
Still no listening-reading. But some new inspiration to study Italian.

2021 - Summary of week 41
Another late update. Finished books: five in Swedish. One of English books is The Fall of Giants by Ken Follett. A neighbour has talked about that series for many years. I searched the library catalogue - the Swedish translation was located in another branch, but the English one was available here. I'm looking forward to reading it. No game evening this week.
NL: More Loyal Books content.
The added inspiration to study Italian came from watching the three Godfather films. This being said, no studying. Sometimes I utter a buongiorno at work. Even a come stai.

I've watched a couple of episodes of the Young Montalbano this week. I understand zero italian, but it's fun trying to spot French cognates.jeff_lindqvist wrote:The added inspiration to study Italian came from watching the three Godfather films. Thanks for your input, Dave! I have studied some Italian, but for the most part I understand it thanks to my Spanish.

2021 - Summary of week 42
Catching up! No finished books, but still reading a couple of crime novels in Swedish, The Fall of Giants and the Carradine biography (also in English). This Thursday evening we played our first game of Eldritch Horror. Four investigators are better than one. They can cover a large part of the map, and join forces when need be.
NL: More Loyal Books content.
No new or old language on the horizon.

2021 - Summary of week 43
Time for a very late summary. Two finished books (crime fiction in Swedish). This Thursday evening we played two rounds of Mysterium which is a cooperative boardgame where all players but one have to find out the murderer, the location and the object. The remaining player is the ghost and communicates with the others through visions. After that, Deep Sea Adventure - a minimalistic game. Pick up treasures from undersea ruins, return before you run out of air! Finally, a few rounds of Love letter.

2021 - Summary of week 44
Another late summary (catching up, though!). Five finished books. This Thursday evening we played a number of shorter games. The Bloody Inn is a card game where the players act as innkeepers, rob or murder the guests in order to make money (Sweeney Tood, anyone?). Another one was String Railway - a very tactile game where you lay railroad tracks with pieces of string. Finally, Deep Sea Adventure again.

One language that I hear knocking on the door is Japanese. One day...

Excluding the visions, this sounds similar to the game Clue. Have you ever played that one? It used to be one of my favorites, and they even made a movie based on the board game in the 80s which is absolutely fantastic. I've seen it about 100 times and I think I have all the lines memorized. Out of all the games you've played, which ones are your favorites?
