Thai 6WC Day 4
44 minutes memrise
30 minutes of writing
47 minutes of YouTube Thai cooking show: อร่อยสร้างภาพ 88, 89, 83

I decided to concentrate on writing today. I wrote/typed the words & sentences from the first few lessons of the podcasts. I struggle to spell correctly. So many Thai words sound the same. Tomorrow I will print what I wrote and then write by hand. I find writing by hand to be more effective than simply inputting into the computer. But I believe that they are both beneficial.

I am enjoying the Thai cooking show อร่อยสร้างภาพ. The show consists of a woman cooking a dish and then a man tasting it and giving feedback. She doesn't necessarily cook Thai food. One was spaghetti with Japanese spices and another was German influenced. She also did one with the "century" pink eggs. The guy who tastes didn't much care for those.

This show is on YouTube and includes a paragraph regarding the episode. I take the paragraph and put it in this Thai to English site: http://www.thai2english.com/
It converts into each word (or sometimes only a transliteration). I then study the words and try to listen for them while watching the video. I am able to pick out a few words from the paragraph along with some food words and top 100 type words. It feels like I'm making a little progress.

Thai 6WC Day 5 (yesterday)

40 minutes memrise
34 minutes of YouTube Thai cooking show: อร่อยสร้างภาพ 87, 85
60 minutes intensive studying of Cat Cartoon #1

I have always wanted to go through all the Cat Cartoons available on the Women Learning Thai website which includes translations and vocabulary lists (for the first 20 or so episodes I think). So yesterday I spent about an hour working with this one minute cartoon. The cats speak rather fast at least to my ear. I listened 2-3 times. Read the transcript. Listened again. Went through the vocabulary words and found sound for them so I could listen to each word. Listened to the cartoon again trying to hear the vocabulary words. I then added all the words/sound to memrise so I can SRS them today and watch the cartoon yet again. I hope that hearing the words over and over individually will help me pick them out more easily.

I also noticed after 8 episodes of อร่อยสร้างภาพ that I'm starting to pick out more words. Doing the 6WC made me realize that I wasn't spending as much time on Thai as I thought I was which is good to know.

Italian

memrise: 2605/14944

film:
2 episodes of Inspector Manara: Off Duty & Old Friends

italki: one hour session with pro teacher

books:
39% of Mangia come parli (9% this week)
8% Cucinare con i fiori e con le erbe di campo (8% this week)

Thai 6WC Day 7

29 minutes memrise
60 minutes GLOSS activity (travel agency & recipe)

I had seen comments about GLOSS on this site but never checked it out until today. I liked the way it was done although the interface is quite dated (from 2004 it seems). I like the teacher notes, video and grammar explanations.

Summary for Week 1 of 6WC

257 minutes of memrise: 1024/3909
187 minutes of podcasts
120 minutes of mixed activity (cat cartoon & GLOSS includes reading, listening, watching, etc)
171 minutes of film (cooking show)
30 minutes of writing
765 minutes total

Goal for Week 2 is to include more reading/writing. And a little less of the อร่อยสร้างภาพ cooking show which I got hooked on.

I also spent some time yesterday trying out Mnemosyne since I found Anki to be awkward to use. I can't explain why but I like this software a little better. I will still use memrise for existing courses/decks but will start using this one for cards I am creating in case memrise ever goes offline. I would hate to lose all the work I did.

Thai 6WC Day 12 (yesterday)

47 minutes memrise
48 minutes of YouTube Thai cooking show: อร่อยสร้างภาพ 7, 9
60 minutes: reading/studying อาหารเช้าที่อบอุ่นใจจากประเทศไทย from LexioPhiles

In trying to find some Thai to read I found the http://www.lexiophiles.com/ site which has multiple languages including Thai. I started reading อาหารเช้าที่อบอุ่นใจจากประเทศไทย trying to translate it using http://www.thai2english.com/ site (which splits Thai non-spaced sentences into words). After some time I noticed the "You might also like" links at the bottom of the page which lead to the English version of this. The site doesn't seem very updated (referring to top blogs of 2014) however it should be useful for me in reading.

I counted words and there were 230 so I read it three times for my first Thai page. I don't know the SC rules on reading but it's impossible for me to find books at my level so I will just read random pages and count them as I'm impatient to get started on it.
