I ended up taking about a two week unplanned study break due to a number of factors. I have spent very little time on Thai or Latin and mostly watched Don Matteo in Italian since it's easy.

Italian

book: finished Mangia come parli and started the grammar/pronunciation book La voce che tocca based on comments of garyb and spoonary as well as a fiction book (the title escapes me at the moment).

Our tutor had to go to Thailand unexpectedly so we had no sessions in the last three weeks. We'll resume this week.

We're working with our Thai tutor to concentrate on food & restaurant terminology, shopping & dealing with buying things as well as politeness for the next few months in anticipation of our trip. My goal is to order my food, buy a book or other item and be polite in my dealings with Thais. Anything beyond that is probably more than I can manage.

I've put Latin on hold until we return from our trip. I will continue to read Italian books and watch Italian shows. I've been very busy with work and other commitments so I'm not spending much time online at the moment.

I just entered all my film for the last two weeks and have exceeded the double SC for Italian. Now I need to focus on reading since I'm only about 25% there. MHz Choice, which is where I watch most of my Italian series recently added some episodes of BarLume. There are a total of six but number five just became available and six will be in a week or two. They are well done in my view which isn't surprising since they come from the makers of Montalbano. They're based on the books by Marco Malvaldi of which I've read one and started a second one. I recommend both the books and movies for those studying Italian.

I'm also re-reading Seta by Alessandro Baricco which is the first adult Italian I read 8-9 years ago. It's much easier this time around and the redundancy is a lot more noticeable as well. I bought the movie a couple of years ago but haven't yet watched it but may once I'm done.

Otherwise I'm plugging away on my Thai.

I finished Seta and started La manomissione delle parole by Gianrico Carofiglio which I'm reading at the same time as one of the BarLume books (don't recall the name at the moment). Carofiglio writes the Guido Guerrieri series but this book is not part of the series and so far seems to be about words and the use of them. It's an easier read than BarLume so a good choice when I'm tired. I finished the last two BarLume movies and continue to watch Don Matteo (just started Season 5).

As far as Thai I am listening to specific conversations regarding restaurants, food, shopping and such on ThaiPod101 and having simple conversations with my husband and our tutor.

It's been a busy couple of months but I've continued to plug away on Thai and I'm confident I will be able to order food, ask for my check and ask how much something costs. I will be leaving for Thailand in a couple of days where I can put all my hard work to use.

I've returned from my trip to Thailand. I had a great time eating a lot of delicious food and managed to speak a bit though not as much as I would have liked. I got pretty good at ordering a Singha.

The long flights gave me a chance to finish the four Italian Ferrante books. I will return to actively studying Italian, Latin and Thai this weekend as well as logging.

I will continue to do the normal reading/listening however my current focus is on grammar. While I am fluent at a certain level in that I'm able to converse with Italians about a broad range of subjects and can read adult books with minimal vocabulary lookup I realize that I make too many grammar errors and want to improve in this area.

I haven't been in the mood for Thai and am questioning whether or not I want to continue with it since I'm having the urge to take up European Portuguese again. At the moment, I'm doing enough memrise review to not forgot the words I've learned so far. I'll probably stick with it out of stubbornness.

After much agonizing I've decided to put Thai on hold for the foreseeable future and possibly permanently. I will probably still use memorize a couple of times a week so I don't forget everything I've learned since I will be vacationing in Thailand in the future. I would like to concentrate on my Italian and dabble in Latin and Sicilian using Italian materials because it will help solidify my Italian grammar and they are both more intuitive for me which requires far less work than Thai. The reason for choosing Sicilian is to help my understanding when I start reading the Montalbano books next year. I recently spent a couple of weeks in Tokyo which is a great city and while I was briefly tempted to learn Japanese that urge passed quickly.

I have been busy with work and been lax in studying much this summer but things are slowing down so I'll have more time now. In reality my goals for the next week aren't much different than my last post. I need to return to logging as it helps keep me on track.
