Ok, so this update is going to be real different. I watched "Rome" (in Spanish of course) in the wee hours and then I watched some cartoons...

I ordered the Spanish edition of Stephen King's "Duma Key" and some other novels. Duma Key arrived yesterday, in English. My shopping basket was full of Márquez last night. I ended up letting Amazon hold onto his books for a while. I will go over to the local library and see if I can get some children's books.

I had just finished transcribing bits of Spanish-language TV shows. I was trying to recollect all the nice expressions I wrote down and then all of a sudden, it just raced through my mind:

Malizia, profumo d'intesa!

...Which of course made me look up old Italian TV jingles. I wanted to see how much I can remember. Perhaps if I spend a few hours listening to the stuff I can refresh some very old brain connections. Anyway, the music, the tone of voice and the words sounded fresh in my memory.

In retrospect, I think I learned a lot through tv jingles growing up as a kid, probably more than I initially gave credit. Colourful 30-second ads that appealed to the emotions and the utter bizarre, full of snappy rhyming and alliteration, and of course loads of spaced repetition, have left these segments of my first language almost permanently etched in my mind. If I hear the words "Do the Shake n' Vac...", I automatically hear "...and put the freshness back!" amongst the ruckus at the back of my mind, and even a simple phrase like "Take it easy..." quickly resolves to "...with Cadbury's Caramel!" (feel free to insert your own personal host of commercial spectres and mischievous childhood ear-worms here at leisure). Maybe I should start listening to ads more in other languages too?

It could be a fun way to kill a couple of hours but you'll miss out on spaced repetition.

Superbe, monsieur! Now it's time to download, add to my background playlist, and shuffle on continuous repeat during downtime...
