Foster plays the widow of a French deserter in the French WW1 movie Un long dimanche de fiançailles (A Very Long Engagement) . The role is not big, but she speaks her own lines in French.
The movie is good, not top notch, say 7/10. I used it for making Anki cards with subs2strs. See rdearman's posts starting here for that process.

The only flaw with the cards for this particular movie is that the audio is not as crisp as I would like (and need).
The movie is based on a novel of the same name by Sebastien Japrisot, which I would rate 9/10.
If memory serves, Foster went to a French lycée in that well known French city down by the sea, Los Angeles.
Incidentally, I would not have expected the name Foster to give a French speaker a hard time.

I loved them all!!! (But the snow! I cackled!)

Reources for listening practice come in all shapes and sizes, but this channel-Passe-moi les jumelles- with for example this film is one of my favorite. I doubt anyone will watch it since it is almost 30 mins. long but for me the channel and the film are special.

Odd to see unpolled milk cows and odd to see cows being milked in the field. Do they do that in the winter, too, in the Val de Bagne? Do the cows never thwack the milkman in the head with their tails? At about 14:28 they throw a white powdery substance out for the cows. Is that salt? I'm used to salt licks in rectilinear cubes, somewhat the size of a breadbox. "Il aime ce qu'il fait," says the lady, and he, "J'ai besoin de cette solitude." Entendu.

As for the spoken French, I understood less than half.

1-Yes, I am guess it is salt also. On our farm we used to have blocks of salt the way you described.Yes
2-Yes, when I milked our cows, they were not nearly so cooperative as in the film. And yes, I would get thwacked on occasion.
3-And yes,I probably don't understand anymore than you do. However I do keep going over the episode many times so as to understand and attune my ear as best I can. In fact, the whole channel - Passe-moi les jumelles-has a photographically poetic aesthetic that for me is conducive to repetition. I never get it all, but with each time, more is better.

All of the episodes are in a sense about slow life styles as opposed to fast. Since I am a slow person, I find the pacing conducive to my learning style.
