March 17 and time for an update.

Am doing extensive reading of Harry Potter with vocab review; about 2-4 hrs./day

If 800 hrs. is the goal for minimal proficiency then I am over 20% of the way to that goal.

Am fully aware I should do more grammar and speaking but need to do one thing at a time for the moment.

All comments welcome.

Congratulations on already putting in 200 hours so far this year, and good luck with your reading project! By the way, do you still practice t'ai chi these days? I only ask as I spent some years learning Sun style t'ai chi, followed by Yang style for a while after I moved, and I'm keen to get back into it one day soon. Perhaps it would bring some balance to my language learning too. ;)

-41% of the 800 hrs. completed for proficiency as set down by FSI

-Have spent a lot of time with the methodology of Johan of
http://www.francaisauthentique.com

He does podcasts with pdfs which is really helpful. His podcasts in particular are helpful to me at my A!-A2 level.
Also, he has a 7 Rules of learning French which is great because those rules reinforce all the advice from this Forum, so it is especially helpful for that reason.

Am applying his rules for my use of:

Isabelle: Balades (Français)
http://www.podclub.ch/sendungen/balades-f

which I learned about here and which I think is wonderful.

Am now at 48.1% of the 800 hrs. for proficiency as set down by Foreign Service Instiute.

Work mostly on Podcasts and vocabulary. Podcasts really good for the: oral, reading, and vocabulary. See marked improvement.

This has been accomplished in 6 months with an average of 2-3 hrs. a day study.

I am beginning to think that language learning not a race run by the swiftest........and I am certainly not swift.

1-Buying a copy of Complete Guide to Conjugating 12000 French Verbs by Bescherelle was a bit of a milestone. Am slowing but surely digging into verbs and in fact focused on them for a couple of hrs. each day for a whole, solid week. Actually interesting! The fear thing that I associate with the verbs is slowly dropping away thanks to Bescherelle.

2-Am continuing on with the L'avis de Marie podcast which is truly fun, interesting and very useful.
http://www.podclub.ch/fr/emissions/l-avis-de-marie-f

3-Also need to mention........
.drum roll.........
I hit my half way mark towards the completion of the goal of 800 hrs. set down by FSI.

So it looks as if I am on my way. I hope..............

My routine is one of 2 hrs. a day study with one day off. I can't do everything at once so I focus on book reading, or vocab, or verbs , or podcasts.

I believe there is real progress.

As one of our founders, emk, has said, it's a marathon not a sprint.
