Has anyone read Chéri by Colette?
I bought the dual-language version and was wondering what level of French this book is.

Re: Carmody's Log for French
My study regimen
I don’t know if anyone follows this thread but just in case, I thought a beginning of the year 2021 update would be appropriate.
How I study:
2 hours each day of reading resulted in my having read the following books in 2020:
Dans la paix des saisons C. Signol
La Rose de Java J. Kessel
Dix heures et demie du soir en été M. Duras**
Le Rempart Des Beguines Françoise Mallet-Joris*
La Chambre Rouge Françoise Mallet-Joris*
Passion simple Annie Ernaux
Chemins de fer Benoit Duteurtre
Malicroix Henri Bosco
Au bonheur des dames Emile Zola*
L'Étrange Défaite Marc Bloch*
Le régime de Vichy Henry Rousso*
Le syndrome De Vichy, de 1944 a Nos Jours Henry Rousso*
*Those that really stood out for me.
Two hours a day of oral input, which I constantly mix but every week I check out:
Home Language
français authentique
comme une française
Plus:
L’Avis de Marie
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1uhjJmoPxmasMbOTUuLLR_3X0wJJoSfAV
note : the url has all the Spoken word episodes and then the written transcriptions at the end of the page.
It is B1 level and I think Marie is an absolutely magnificent writer. I have told her to write a book but she is hesitant…..
Also I watch documentaries, lots of documentaries.
- Les Chartreux "Au delà du silence"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=90w_LQg0Kik
-animal documentaries like this
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC-dWaFZOmdpG1EE09faT8Cg
The documentaries have one person speaking and I find easier to follow than network series.
I don't do any Speaking or Writing exercises since I have no one with which to correspond or speak and am reluctant to pay to do so.
So that is it. If anyone has questions, feel free to ask.

Re: Carmody's Log for French
The important thing for me with Oral input resources is that I have to be really interested in it to stay focused. With Marie, her diction and subject matter are always excellent and added to that is the ongoing story of where she goes and what she does. To keep people interested over 157 episodes is no small task.
Oh, and she has charm. Very few people have a charming manner, but she definitely does.

First of all, I have been subscribed to your thread for some time.
Second, all these are excellent suggestions. Listening to the animal documentaries is going to be fun!

Re: Carmody's Log for French
Just dropping by to say how much I've enjoyed reading your log.
It's particularly relevant because I too have decided to learn a single language, instead of many.
My father also took French in high school, and being a recent retiree, has been wondering what to do with his time. I've encouraged him to pick up French again and I think having him read your log would go a long way to convince him!

I too am retired and took French in high school, and find French learning to be an excellent challenge.
If your father has questions please have him contact me.
Please to note I think that you and I are the only two people on the Forum who have chosen to learn only one language. So, welcome aboard

You guys aren't quite alone. After reading your latest post I read Miss_French_2020's latest post and I think she's only learning French as well. There are always a few odd ones in every group!
