Good job on your persistence! You're my FIA model. What chapter are you at now?

Re: Carmody's Log for French
1-I have to calm down, relax, and start to spend more time Reviewing material already covered. If I am just reading through books and FIA, etc.and never reviewing then I am not learning.
2-This is a journey that needs to be taken one step at a time. If I just rush through the landscape without absorbing what I need to then it is wasted time and will have to be covered again later.
3-FIA says that I should not expect to get it all the material the first time around, so learn what I can now and then remember to review, review, review.
4-Leave the polyglot path to the fleet of foot and don't compare myself to others.
5-Doing one language as thoroughly as I can is no small task; so take pride in the progress to date and continue to put one foot in front of the other.
5-And don't forget to smell the roses and enjoy the clouds along the way.
6-And lighten up; keep it loose.

Pilgrimage
Somehow sense my language learning is a bit like a pilgrimage with the need for:
• Faith, and lots of it. The need for so much time and effort and faith in the process.
• A real lesson in humility; what with the endless mistakes and need for correction and relearning what hasn’t been learned.
• The solitude of the journey and the fact that no one can do it for me.
• Importance of total dedication and mind full ness in my efforts.
• Perseverance in the face of hardship.
• The constant daily distractions that can divert me away from the course I have chosen.
• The joy of seeing what comes slowly with time.
Or maybe not; whatever......

Re: Carmody's Log for French
No big news this time through but rather just an update re current status of studies:
1-I am at chapter 42 / 52 in my French in Action. FIA is most decidedly not for the fleet of foot or faint of heart. I hope I can finish, but will take it a day at a time.
2-Mixed with that are sessions of oral comprehension from Francais Avec Pierre and Home Language on YouTube. Finding them very helpful to review old episodes repeatedly so as to pick up more with each repetition.
3-Mixed with that is my review of the past books I have already read for study of vocabulary.
4-I need to review my FIA, past books, etc. so I can benefit from the spacing of my repetition going over material.
5-Very important for me to remain focused on the material at hand and not allow mind chatter to interfere. Mind chatter can very easily seep in and I have to stay focused.
6-I remain very careful with monitoring of my time on a spread sheet. Put down neither more than less of what time is spent.
Note: I have no idea how people with a job and children are able to do this language learning. My hat is off to them.

You might like the Journal en français facile:
https://savoirs.rfi.fr/fr/apprendre-enseigner/langue-fran%C3%A7aise/journal-en-fran%C3%A7ais-facile
You get a ten minute news broadcast in easy French with accompanying transcript. I think this is much better than read or listening in isolation. NHK News also provides a similar service.

Re: Carmody's Log for French
I take each day at a time but I might be stuck at chp. 46 of FIA for a little while. I am having cataract surgery done on March 16 and March 30th. I am hoping for the best but I know of one guy at our gym where it did not turn out for the best but I do hope to carry on. One never knows.

I'm sure you will be fine. I had cataract surgery a few years ago, and it made a world of difference in my sight. Wish you all the best.

Re: Carmody's Log for French
Sorry Carmody, I initially posted this in the wrong thread and got a little muddled (I think my head's not screwed on tightly enough today ). Here goes a second time...
FR: Bonne chance avec la chirurgie demain et plus tard ce mois, Carmody. L'année dernière, ma mère et mon beau-père ont eu cette chirurgie aussi tous les deux, et tout s'est très bien passé. Je te garde dans mes pensées.
EN: Good luck with the surgery tomorrow and later this month, Carmody. Last year, both my mother and step-father also had this surgery, and everything worked out really well. I'm keeping you in my thoughts.
