TV bench? TV table if it was more table like. TV stand could work. (For those who wonder, this thing is called TV-bänk in Swedish.)

Oh you mean that whole black thing! I thought you meant the grey ledge just beneath the TV. Mantelpiece came to mind but no fireplace. I later gathered it was probably a subwoofer.

Another laugh out loud moment as Jerome descriptions a hostel they stay in on his bike tour of the Black Forest.

Ce n'est pas une odeur qu'on puisse comparer à quoi que ce soit. C'est tout comme si l'on mélangeait des roses, du fromage du Limbourg, de l'huile pour les cheveux, quelques fleurs de bruyère, des oignons, des pêches, de l'eau de savon avec une bouffée d'air marin et un cadavre.

OK, one more book down.

This is a pretty good story about three English guys who travel to German for a biking tour, this is back at the turn of the century (the previous turn of the century, not this one. 1900). It has some funny bits in it, like I've posted, or when the character George confuses the German words for cushion and kiss. It wasn't as popular as "Three men in a boat, not to mention the dog." but it is worth reading. I would have enjoyed it more in English, since humour is difficult for me to understand in another language.

I have this in paperback, but because it is also a public domain book I put it on my tablet and mobile phone, I use FBReader app which synchronizes between devices. Amazingly, it took me longer to read than if I had just read the paperback. Why?

Well because using the electronic version I could look up any word which I am not sure of. There are many words I'm not 100% sure of when reading, but I have a pretty good idea what it is. For example, when reading a paperback and come across the sentence: "Elle vendait des framboises sur la plage." I might be unsure of the word framboises, I dimly remember it is some kinda of fruit or berry, but I really don't remember, and it doesn't add anything to the storyline, so I just skip it. It is too much hassle to lookup, and if it appears again, then I'll probably look it up the second time.

However, when it is in the app, looking up a word is simply touching the word, then pressing the translation icon and presto you have the answer "raspberries". This doesn't take long, let's call it 30 seconds. The paperback would have been milliseconds to decide to move on. But 30 seconds isn't much, right? But because I could look up every word, I did. If you look up 60 words that you would have skipped because you sort of understand from context, you've added a half an hour.

I can remember when I was a teenager after our day of hunting dinosaurs, I would read, and because I didn't have an English dictionary in the cave dwelling, I would have to figure it would from context or ask my parents. So I know that you can learn words this way and it is probably a little more efficent for me to do it that way.

So, moving on!
Next up:

This was controversial when it was first produced (it is a play). The version of the book I own was one used to torture university students. The student in question, one Fiona O'Doroghue, wrote her name in the front of the book. She plastered the margins with copious notes as well as personalized commentary. Insightful commentary such as "Stupid thing to say", or "I beg your pardon!" or "No, thank you." and even "Bastards."

I'm sure back in 1987 Fiona didn't realize her commentary would be shown internationally on something which would become known as "the Internet". I hope Fiona successfully garnered her degree and is perhaps even now torturing students of her own in French literature.

No idea what this is about, probably something religious.

Yep, it was something religious. Basically, an introspection from the author about his childhood between 1st and 2nd world wars, and then about his life before his conversion to Catholicism. His father served as the chairman of the French communist party, so his conversion didn't go down well. Would I recommend the book, probably not, but if you're into autobiographies then yeah go for it?

Next up on the list is:

The story is about four friends whose friendships break down because of the AID's crisis in France in the 80's. The reviews of this book are mixed. Again, it isn't something I would normally pick out to read. Social history, politics, philosophy, gay literature, etc. But it is in French and on my bookshelf, so it has to be read. Hopefully, it is better than the reviews I've seen. Seriously doubt it could be worse than that scifi book (Arrive at Easterwine) from last month.
