I'm continuing with watching カルテット, mostly without subs, although I have re-watched the first three episodes with English subs. The Japanese subs I have are badly timed, so when I do work back and try to watch in more detail I'll probably do so by keeping the subs open in another window and just working through them manually.

I've started to try some intensive listening and shadowing of the Intensive JPOD101 Advanced Audio blog season 4 episodes. The first 10 cover famous Japanese authors and some of their works, so it's been quite interesting, even though it does involve stepping through a lesson slowly, time and again!

In my tutorial lessons I've now finished みんなの日本語中級 Chapter 19. I have, however, started to work though the 日本語総まとめ N2 文法 Day 7 exercises in detail, so I'll probably take some of those along to the tutorial next week rather than starting on Chapter 20.

Anki and RTK are being kept up to date, as ever. I still have ~2000 sentences to activate from the iKnow database. Most of those involve at least one new item of vocabulary. I'll probably shift to activating the 新完全マスター N2 文法 sentences instead though, as they're more focussed on the grammar points I want to solidify.

For the first time in ages I sat down and read an NHK News article. I think I really need to get back in to the habit of doing that on a daily basis.

That's probably my longest gap between updates!

As I currently plan to sit the JLPT N2 in December I've decided that I really need to get more reading done. So I've started working on 新完全マスター N2 読解 again and I'm pushing to get to the end of the book by mid August. I've only got about 30 pages to do, so that should be entirely possible. I'll then push on with some novels. In addition I've decided to make NHK News a priority and I will try hard to work through an average of one article per day. One week in and I'm managing to keep that up!

The listening side has always been my bug bear. Things are better but probably nowhere near good enough. So I'm going to set myself a goal of a minimum of 4 hours of video per week. On top of that I'm going to try some intensive listening and maybe shadowing with the JPOD101 Advanced Audio Blog.

To help with the grammar I have finished activating the 新完全マスター N2 文法 sentences. As these have no English translation, I've supplied my own. There are far too many for me to get them all checked by my tutor, so I'm just taking along the ones that I have problems with and correcting them as I go. (The ones that are all my own work are marked, so I can keep track of which ones I can rely on!)

I've been keeping up the NHK News everyday (including weekends). The length of time spent reading various between 12m and 45m but is most often about 20m. That's usually one or two articles. Lots of weather related stuff lately. I skip the political stuff.

I've finished reading (and answering) the very last page of 新完全マスター N2. I'm now going to work though it again (in reverse order this time) mining it for vocabulary. If I have time after that, I'll work through it doing the exercises once again.

I've also gone back to doing some intensive listening to the Intensive JPOD101 Advanced Audio blog. I've skipped forward to the "songs" subsection, as that seems a little less complex than the "authors" section.

I got through a reasonable variety of activities this week.

I've managed to read NHK News every day. I've started (slowly) to mine 新完全マスター N2 読解 for vocabulary. I've got back into watching 東京タラレバ娘; currently I'm doing so without subs, partly because the timing was so bad on the first episode that I think it would take too much work to use them for watching, and partly because I think I can follow parts of it without subs. 'm still repeatedly intensively listening to Intensive Listening:JPOD101's lesson about the song 「花」. I'm watching one episode of ふるさと再生 日本の昔ばなし on crunchyroll (as I'm up to date with this series, there's just one new episode each week). I've also had one tutorial.

RTK and anki are being kept up to date. I'm going to let the sentence deck reviews subside before activating any more: I have all of 日本語総まとめ N2 文法 and 新完全マスター N2 文法 activated, so there's plenty of grammar (and vocabulary) practice happening. Once I have more vocabulary from the N2 読解 book, I'll start to activate that in Anki too.

I'm just back from a nice relaxing holiday, so almost no language learning to report.

I did read a bit of Japanese on the flight out and I did slip in an hour or so of Anki, but otherwise there really was no time (or desire, if I'm honest :) ) to read Japanese or German.

I'm slowly getting abck into the swing of things after the holiday. I'm keeping up with my goal of one NHK News article each day. I'm quite a way behind with my anki reviews but I'm just going to let those sort themselves out over the next few weeks. I've finished watching 東京タラレバ娘, so now I have to go hunt out something else to watch.

I did check about registering for this December's JLPT N2, but registration is not yet open.

I'm quite enjoying reading NHK News every day. My reading ability varies from day to day, but overall I can often work my way through a sentence before back-tracking with rikaichan or a dictionary to check things over. I'm still skipping most place names though :-)

My anki reviews have stabilised after having had to catch up post-holiday.

I'm putting more effort into intensive listening work with the JPOD101 Advanced Audio Blog.

I've found a new series to watch: 嘘の戦争.

Took a short break in the coutryside this week, so for a few days almost no language learning happened at all.

I did keep up NHK News on all but one day. Other than that I've been keeping Anki under control, preparing the next chapter of みんなの日本語中級 for the next tutorial and carrying on with watching 嘘の戦争.

I've tried to get more listening done during the past week. I've also started Udemy's N2 video course: so far so good. There's nothing in it that I've not seen before (although maybe 10% of the vocabulary is new). The listening practice (both the skits and the instructor's explanations) is helpful. The grammar explanations are all good too: I think it helps that I already have a good handle on the grammar, so the explanations are just filling in the holes and adding to the nuances.

I've also signed up for the December JLPT N2. I've started to work through some of the older JLPT 2 papers that I've found online: I'm leaving the official practice paper for later on.

I'm still keeping up the NHK News reading and have managed at least one article (and often more) every day so far.

With all the other video and listening practice, 嘘の戦争 has been on the back burner slightly and I've only watched one episode this past week.

I've finished my first pass through the Udemy N2 course. I enjoyed working through it: I think it was useful revision along with a few new grammar points and some excellent explanations of vocabulary. I hope to have time to review selected bits again (the conversations, in particular). I've mined all the vocabulary and I'm in the process of adding the example sentences to anki too.

I've also finished 嘘の戦争. I'm going to start a new series, but I will be working through this one in more detail to see if there is more I can learn from it.

I've picked up 新完全マスター N2 読解 again. I'm working through each question once without a dictionary (i.e. under "exam-like conditions") and then going back to verify any missing vocabulary (and adding it to anki) and then seeing if I change any of my answers now that I have more of the vocabulary available. It takes time and I'm unlikely to get to the end of the book before December but I'm pleased that it's an easier read than a year ago!

I'm still managing at least one NHK News article every day. I did miss one day and a few of the other days I've only read one article and I've cherry-picked the shortest to achieve that. So now I'm required to read the first article, regardless of length ...

I did manage one session of intensive listening of the JPOD101 Aadvanced Audio Blog, but that's all.
