Only once every 7 years. I'm always ill on that day. Odd coincidence, I should really take more vitamin C.

Happy Birthday Radioclare!

Thank you everyone :)

There's an unlimited holiday policy, so you could take off an extra day before/after your birthday anyway :)

30 November
Hadn't really missed many work emails while I was off yesterday, so that was nice. Also today was payday, which is always a good day :)

Russian
I went out for a walk at lunchtime and was sufficiently organised to have charged my ear phones so that I could listen to a Russian with Max podcast. This was quite a long, rambling one about various different topics, but it started out by discussing government propaganda and the way governments use media to control what the population thinks, which was quite interesting. It then degenerated into some personal views on the importance of traditional family structures which I found quite old-fashioned, but I guess one of the joys of learning other languages is that you get to experience views which are different to those prevailing in your own country.

That was all I did today, except for a bit of Memrise review-clearing this evening.

Thank you everyone for the birthday wishes :)

1 December
Today we finally cracked and turned the heating on  My house has electric storage heaters, so they take in power overnight and tomorrow they should give out some heat. Looking forward to it!

Russian
I didn't get out for a walk at lunchtime, so I went on the treadmill for extra steps this evening and started another lesson of the Kalinka course. This one was introducing the dative case, so fairly straightforward stuff. As I'm getting further through the course, a bit more of the narrative and instructions is actually in Russian rather than in English, which is nice. I particularly like that they're giving the Russian names of the cases and other grammatical terms. I certainly haven't absorbed them all yet but I'm hoping that I will with plenty of repetition.

Only had to work a half day today, which was nice. I'm going out all day tomorrow though so I just used the free time to catch up on housework rather than doing anything exciting.

Russian
Did the usual Memrise after I finished work and then in the evening spent some time reading 'Игольное ушко'. Words which I looked up today included "гаечный ключ" (a spanner) and "брезент" (tarpaulin, canvas). In the context of the story, "брезент" was being used to describe the canvas top on a jeep.

Have been to the big Christmas Market in Birmingham today with my family. A belated birthday celebration.

Russian
That involved walking to the train station this morning and then standing on a train which was absolutely rammed to get to Birmingham. I used the time to listen to two Russian with Max podcasts. The first one was about fear. The second one was about whether it's good or not to live an increasing proportion of your life online. They helped pass the time on what would otherwise have been a fairly unpleasant journey.
