Good luck with your goals in French and BSL this year, Jenny! I'm currently studying French myself this year, so I look forward to following your progress. I also enjoyed studying a bit of BSL back in 2010/11 with my trusty "Communication Link: A Dictionary of Signs" and access to Lee Marshall's excellent signing videos for contemporary popular songs. There used to be hundreds of his BSL videos online, but sadly the powers that be keep taking his and other signers' videos down due to copyright issues - a real shame!

So today I again attempted to write in french on the new post Cette Semaine en Français :) and know its my weakest area and feel silly as needed to use a dictionary for some words and then reading the posts I felt stupid as needed to translate the page :S

I have a long way to go in french i think :( but will keep at it and hopefully in a few months will be better at it and feel more confident as keep doubting myself on simple words :)

BSL going well though find it much easier :)

Slow day and hopefully a better day tomorrow!

Don't feel stupid about using a dictionary. I use it every day, and looking up a word in a dictionary will help you remember it. It's more effective as a learning tool than something like Google Translate (another thing that I have to use). A number of us, like me, are just babies when it comes to writing French.

Hang in there,
Tom

Salut ! So I obviously don't know if you were including me in the people that are more advanced, but just remember that we were all beginners at one stage and we remember what it's like and only want to see you improve! I've been learning French continuously for 4 years now, and I can say that as long as you keep going you'll keep improving until one day writing in French will seem more like a relaxing activity than a study activity. It'll happen as long as you keep going and keep moving onto higher level materials when you can (including native material).

Plus, some of us, like me, are going through exactly what you're talking about except in a different language. I definitely feel exactly like you when I try to write in Mandarin!

I recognise this feeling, but I think there are really people of all levels on this forum. Everyone has been very welcoming too. :)
