Yesterday was crazy. Bought a lot of furniture. Managed to listen to a Feluda story in Bangla and a decent chunk of the Gospel of Matthew in Greek.

Today's work:

  1. Anki (Bangla and Greek)
  2. Mounce Memrise (Greek)
  3. Parsing Quiz (Greek)
  4. Finish the Gospel of Matthew Audio (Greek). Shout out to Dr. Louis Tyler's audio New Testament which is still the best free full Erasmian audio NT I've found
  5. Listen to a Feluda Story
  6. Watch Bangla TV episode
  7. Watch Daily Dose of Greek Video
  8. Listening/Reading Rep on ঈমান ও আমল

Spent a little time yesterday daydreaming about starting Ancient Hebrew and Aramaic. I think my goals for Hebrew and Aramaic would be more modest. If I could get to the level I have in Greek, I would probably be happy shifting into low gear and thinking long term. I would like to get my Greek, Bangla, and Spanish pretty high level though.

Well, I am in-between tutors right now, and I really need to be watching more TV, so I can continue working on my native-to-native discourse work. You are supposed to watch the episode first yourself. Then summarize what you understood to your language partner. Then watch it with your language partner. Stop to discuss every time you don't understand something. Create a new vocab list. Record the whole conversation. Listen to the recording. This takes about 5 hours for every one hour of native-to-native discourse. Watching the episodes ahead of time really helps spread the time out though.

Today I did my Anki, a Parsing Quiz, Memrise Greek Quiz, watched a Daily Dose of Greek video, Shadowed a Bangla chunk, had five chapters of the Greek Gospel of Luke audio playing.

I'm going to try to prioritize TV, and then listen to audiobooks when I can multitask.

I've got a few different language learning irons in the fire, so I want to make a bit of schedule now that certain things have fallen into place.

BANGLA
1. Take composition and dictation exam (end of October)
2. Finish Phase 5 GPA/100 hours native-to-native discourse (by 2023?)
3. Take ACTFL (sonn after Phase 5 completion)
4. Create new learning plan and goals focusing on daily speaking exercises (or conversation) in desired areas of competency
5. Reach 10k page reading goal

Current plan for Composition and Dictation Exam:

I got sample summaries and letters from my language partner along with audio recordings of them.
I am doing one minute of dictation every day for 30 days.
I will listen to the audio of the summaries and letters every day.
I am copying down the one summary and one letter every day for 15 days.
Then the final 15 days I will compose a summary and a letter every day and have my language partner check them.

Exam submitted!
I will retake anything I didn't pass next month.

The dictation section had two words I did not know:

মুচড়ে
ক্ষত-বিক্ষত

My spelling is still regrettable.

Moving on to more native-to-native discourse work.
I will try to log more of my daily work as well.

Discovered this today. Now you can watch TV in Koine!

Yesterday's work:

Anki, Greek Parsing Quiz, Memrise Greek Quiz, Daily Dose of Greek video.
Watched 40 mins of television with my language partner.
New words:
১. গঠন
২. ধারাভাষ্য
৩. সুরতহাল
৪. ফজিলত
৫. ফাঁকে
৬. কাবু করা
৭.ধ্বস্তাধ্বস্তি করা
৮. পূর্ব পরিকল্পিত
৯. ঝাঁপটায় ধরা
১০. সামাল দেওয়া
১১. বাটপার
১২ নজর রাখা
১৩. অনাকাঙ্ক্ষিত
১৪. উদ্যোগ নেয়া

There were also some curse words that didn't get written down. I have a 5 min audio file of my language partner saying three sentences using each word.

I listened to the recording of us watching the TV episode together and clarifying things. I listened to the word recording several times.
I watched some Koine Greek videos.
I watched an English TV episode with Bangla subtitles.

Failed Dictation 2 (70% needed to pass)
My heart is filled with inexpressible sorrow. If only I had the language ability to express it. But alas . . .

In all seriousness, my hearing/vocab was probably 90+%, but the test takes 1% off for every misspelled word. Why they grade it that way, I do not know, but I have not focused on spelling, and it is regrettable.

Back to daily dictation exercises :?
