June 23, 2022: I finished reading and listening the book novel "Великое плавание". It's the history of Columbus' discovery of America and his second voyage and exploration of the New World told by a fictional young character. I didn't like it.

June 24, 2022:
1) I reached page 300 of Русский Семантический Словарь, том II, 2002: clothing.
2) I started reading and listening the 1882 historical novel "Княжна Тараканова", 160 pages, by russian writer (or ukrainian, according to English Wikipedia article) Grigory Danilevsky.

Books read: 38
Pages read: 12,249.

June 26, 2022: I finished reading and listening the historical novel "Княжна Тараканова". It's the tragic history of Princess Tarakonova (1745-1775), a pretender of the Russian Throne, as he claimed to be a daughter of Empress Elizabeth of Russia. An interesting, albeit gloomy, novel.

June 30, 2022:
1) I reached page 305 of Русский Семантический Словарь, том II, 2002: shirts and blouses.
2) I started reading and listening the book "У королев не бывает ног", 471 pages, a translation into Russian of the 1973 satirical novel "Královny nemají nohy" by Czech writer Vladimír Neff (1909-1983). The title translates as "Queens have no legs".

Books read: 39.
Pages read: 12,409.

Words I found and learned there:

дреко́льe = дубины, палки, копья в качестве оружия.
анало́й = lectern.
понука́ть = (impf.) to urge on, goad.
пучи́на = abyss.
за́светло = before nightfall/dark.
распина́ть/распя́ть = to crucify.
смерч = tornado.
благода́ть = (f.) grace (relig.)
ка́нуть = (pf.) to drop, sink.
уподобле́ние = likening, comparison.

Those word are total crap nobody use them for about century. You can find them only in old books.....Boring
Maybe it\ll be better to find more modern books?Try best sellers or recommendation of russian fantasy,sci-fi etc

Russians highly recommend this author (Sci-FI)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arkady_an ... Strugatsky
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nick_Perumov (Fantasy)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boris_Akunin (Detectives during tsarist\s russia) and history, non fiction excellent.
You can try Nicholas Fandorin series ( there are movies also

What pm is reading it\s nott popular classic authors like Dostoevsky, Bulgakov, it\s unpopular authors. So it\s something like ART House (AKA crap) in hollywood terms :-) It\s unpopular because nobody liked it.
Tolstoy etc, classic books it\s dififcult to read them because there is a lot of description with a lot of obsolete words,NATIVE speakers can\t stand it,it is impossible even for them,it\s 100% torture. Authors just didn\t know howto write well enough :-)

TRY https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Victor_Pelevin Best of the BEST, ther are no simillar authors in USA.

frenchfish55,

Your post remembered me the centuries old latin maxim De gustibus non est disputandum. If you don't know what it means, read this excerpt from Wikipedia:
De gustibus non est disputandum, or de gustibus non disputandum est, is a Latin maxim meaning "In matters of taste, there can be no disputes" (literally "about tastes, it should not be disputed/discussed").[1][2] The phrase is commonly rendered in English as "There is no accounting for taste(s)."[3] The implication is that everyone's personal preference is a merely subjective opinion that cannot be right or wrong, so they should never be argued about as if they were. Sometimes the phrase is expanded as De gustibus et coloribus... referring to tastes and colors. The saying is an ancient Roman adage. Its vernacular and textual origin are unknown, and a subject of debate in itself.
