Re: French/Latin by the nature method
Congratulations, daegga, on finishing the course! So, how do you like the French by the Nature Method course? Do you think it gave you a good foundation in the language? Did you find the age of the course a hindrance? Did you find the method of instruction to be effective? What did you like and dislike about the course?daegga wrote:Finished the last chapter of the nature method today. Back to ch 45 for the last review round.

Re: French/Latin by the nature method
To compare it with Assimil:
Assimil starts short and humorous, but gets tedious towards the end.
Naturmetoden starts long and tedious, but ends with even longer chapters that are actually quite interesting. You learn about French history, about the life in Paris (in the 60s, but still...), all packed into a continuous story (at least starting with chapter 21).
Vocabulary range and grammar are quite similar, but Naturmetoden gives you already plenty of passé simple (with margin notes with the passé composé form for the first usage per verb) in the last chapters, which Assimil shies away from.
The age is no hindrance, it's rather charming to read about French Africa (Casablanca) and people having "bonnes". Even references to phonographs aren't completely useless, I mean some audiophiles still use record players.
So far this was the most enjoyable way of learning a language short of diving directly into native material.
As for the language level it got me, the verdict is still out. I intend to follow up with the second part (an adapted intermediate reader of proper French authors), which claims to get you beyond 4000 words. Then I will see how big the gap to proper native material still is.
I would definitively recommend this method, but it might be wise to have some preknowledge in the language (which I had) to quickly get past the first very tedious chapters.

Could you tell more about you experience? Did you just read, without thinking about grammar much? (If I understood you correctly, you didn't bother about pensa, right)?
Are you planning to return to Latin? If so, what are you planning to do after LLPSI?
