What do you think of the translations of the O'Brian books? I'm a big fan of his works and if the translations are good I'll probably pick them up.

My French is not good enough to judge the translation quality, but it's readable and entertaining enough. The naval terms are still tough, but so they were in the original. Some word plays are hard to translate (dog watch being curtailed etc), they get footnotes explaining the joke.

Cool, thanks, I'll check out at least the first one once my queue is through -- annoyingly, it seems like only later volumes are available on Kindle where I am, and while I'm not a big Kindle-over-physical-books fan, when you're talking about a series of 20 books...
