taking it by the day in 2021

Postby antstronaut » Tue Jan 19, 2021 10:28 pm

- or should I say by the language? Hello! - to whoever is reading this! I have browsed this forum for a year or two, but only recently created an account. (it is quite a fresh breath from reddit, if you ask me)

I have been learning German for a few years now. I have drastically improved within the two years. Currently, I am signed up for two German university classes, along with a few other classes. One is in translation and the other is in intermediate grammar. I am very excited for it. My plan would be to try to improve my German as much as possible. Settle on a romance language, rather than just dabbling in several. And finally, somehow grasp the grammatical cases that Hungarian has. I really want to go through a lot of my language books, so I can start scanning them for myself and then donating them or something. I am sure other language learners can understand!

My general 2021 goals for each language:
(side note: these are not really set in stone, most of these languages are just casual dabbling, but later I might realise that I am taking on too much, or I am just not that interested)
German: finish Teach Yourself German and a few other books, find a tutor I can converse with. Finish at least three novels.
Hungarian: finish Essential Hungarian Grammar by Carol Rounds + have a firm grasp on the case system.
Dabbling languages:
French: Finish Living Language Ultimate French
Italian: Finish Living Language conversational Italian. Watch and transcribe one YouTube video a week (typically Lucrezia or Podcast Italiano)
Spanish: finish El Hobbit and have a firm grasp on the tenses

Es macht also Sinn.

I really want to improve and get started, but I am just more than slightly intimidated. Hopefully I can update this thread somewhat consistently.

I am impressed that you are able to study French, Spanish and Italian simultaneously!

Honestly it is more dabbling than anything serious, because I really didn't know which language I wanted to add besides German and Hungarian. I just knew, at the time of introducing this log, I wanted to study a romance language. The likelihood is that it will be Italian because I found some really good channels that I really like.
