When an interest is so compelling that in order to satisfy it you will do what it takes to get there, when that interest multiplies because you have already gotten there and you want more, then you will have found the coveted "magic pill" for learning a language. Serpent is interested in sports. She has managed to leverage that interest into learning several languages. There's something we can all learn from this- Do what you love. The rest will follow.

I kinda failed my personal challenge with listening to more females speaking Italian, but I now finally did something outside the football+HP box. I absolutely adore the actor/model Cristina de Pin, who happens to be the wife of footballer Riccardo Montolivo but who now interests me more than her husband :P I've watched the silly movie 10 ragazze where she played, and now I'll give her Tacco 12... si nasce show a try :D

First, can any Italian [speaker] clarify what exactly tacco 12 is? Does it refer to the height of the heels in cm? Is it a brand? I feel like something cultural is escaping me  (feel free to explain in Italian or another language ;))

Then, can anyone help me figure out the place names mentioned here, apart from Vicenza? The lady is called Valerija Populić (sp?), but I can't seem to figure out where she says she was born and grew up

There's a fanstastic project here in Moscow, namely the School of Neighbours' Languages. They teach the languages of the CIS countries, like Ukrainian, Tajik, Romanian/Moldovan etc... and Belarusian :)
I've sent an application for Belarusian and I'm considering sending one for Romanian too. Oh and it's all for free :)

Just for fun I'm sharing my application/motivation letter here. I hadn't written in more or less formal Russian for ages...

Of course this is not super-formal, and it's also above the character limit, but I'm a special snowflake etc :D (and the final paragraph is basically a note about my level, though it fits coherently with the rest of the letter) TBH I really hope they'll accept me. I considered admitting that I know I may be overqualified, and that there may well be a complete newbie who needs these classes more, but I've decided not to mention this.
