WEEKLY UPDATE
Russian - I'm already at the chapter 27 from "Грамматика без проблем".
Hebrew - Assimil lesson 60. I felt really motivated to do the lessons this week and I want to finish Assimil by the end of May.
English - "The Spectator" p.16-19, watched 1 video by Lindie Botes and Langfocus
to be blinkered - mieć klapki na oczach
to kowtow to - płaszczyć się przedFrench - watched 1 video by Linguisticae. I finished reading my "Le Point" but I could not buy a new issue from my local provider, they didn't have "L'Express" either so in the end I opted for "LHistoire" for the first time. The issue I bought is all about the fall of Roman Empire and the transition from late Antiquity to early Middle Ages which I've always found intriguing.
Italian - "Panorama" p.36-39, watched 2 videos by "Nova Lectio"
incauto - lekkomyślny
avallare - uprawomocnićGerman - "Der Spiegel" p.94-95, watched 1 video by MrWissen2go Geschichte, listened to 1 episode of "Zwischen Hamburg und Haiti", "Weltempfänger", "Weltspiegel Thema" and 2 episodes of "Einhundert"
Just like for Romanian, I decided to watch a couple of "docudrammas" on YT (I'm not really sure how this kind of TV shows is called in English). I can definitely recommend "
Im Namen der Gerechtigkeit" (watched 8 episodes) and even more so "
Anwälte im Einsatz" (watched 2 episodes). The former has a more humorous/not so serious edge to it, while the latter is more "sachlich" but it may be just a false impression because I've watched so far only a few episodes of each series. On the other hand, I watched also 3 episodes of "Hilf mir! Jung, pleite, verzweifelt" and the title alone should be enough of a warning - it's targeted at teenagers I guess and the episodes I've watched were absurd, to put it mildly, so I'm not going to continue with this series.
beschwichtigen - łagodzić, uspokajać
hartnäckig - uparty
der Vollzug - wykonanieRomanian - read 4 articles from DW Romanian Service, watched 1 video by "Zaiafet" and "Top Opt".
I watched 3 episodes of "În căutarea adevărului" and I must confess it's not bad as I thought it would be
well, it's still not overly ambitious but I get from it exactly what I was looking for at this moment - every day speech and dialogues.
The good thing is that in each episode there are different actors so I can get used to different varieties of speech/pronunciation. The bad thing is that each episode lasts 1,5 hour and I cannot really watch it while working (unlike listening to podcasts). And the musical background they use is problematic to me (almost happy music playing while the protagonist is being told that her sister is in reality her mother) but fortunately this part has nothing to do with language learning.
And one interesting thing I noticed - in Romanian, there are two ways to express the future, the so called literary and popular future tenses. I exptected to hear the popular future tense most of the time but it turns out it's the exact opposite - they use the literary tense in most situations, and it applies to all the protagonists and their social status has nothing to do with that.
nebănuit - nieoczekiwany
fundătura - ślepa uliczka
lașitate - tchórzostwo
