I may be wrong but I think Chinese expat communities in Europe and in Northern America as well rarely have Mandarin as a native tongue. In Spain for instance most of them speak Wu. As a matter of fact, 70% of all Chinese people in Spain come from Zhejiang. I've also heard that in Northern America most Chinese people actually speak Cantonese.

On a de la chance si on est francophone et qu'on veut apprendre le chinois, il n'y a pas que d'Assimil. Tu peux essayer avec 40 leçons pour parler chinois, qui a plus de détail dans ses leçons courtes, plus d'explications. Ensuite, il y a le Méthode 90. Il y a aussi les livres d'Asiathèque, mais ils sont moins objectifs.
