Quite a while ago I stumbled across a thread on HTLAL where several polyglots succeeded in going from 0 --> A2 in Finnish (from scratch) in 30 days with 45 hours work. Those who participated in this challenge were polyglots and had many years of language learning experience which is why they were able to achieve fantastic results in a short period of time. I am going to try a similar experiment! Why? My friends and I are going to Spain for the week... and I don't want to be the odd one out who doesn't know any Spanish (they are able to communicate quite well in Spanish). I also believe it will be quite a fun challenge and I would like to see how far I am able to progress in 30 days.
It's going to be 30 days. No more and no less. Today is day one.

I know how to say hello, good morning, good afternoon, good evening and goodbye but that's it.

Gracias I've now done the first 2 lessons of Assimil. I listened quite a few times to the audio and I copied the text out by hand. I then completed the exercises and then inputted the sentences into Anki.
Day 1: 51 minutes.
Total: 51 minutes.

Good luck - I think I might do similar things with Dutch and will look forward to reading about your progress. Actually I'm waffling between French and Dutch but really I should just choose Dutch for now.

Re: 30 days of Spanish...
Thank-you for the comments
Day 1: 51 minutes
Day 2: 40 minutes (I did have 45 minutes on my stopwatch, but 5 of those minutes were me checking Facebook and I forgot to pause the it).
Total: 91 minutes
I'm up to lesson 4 in Assimil, just need to complete the exercises and listen to it a few more times. I am hoping to finish lesson 5 tomorrow as well, but I am not too worried if I don't. The first few lessons have not been too challenging. I can imagine in a few lessons time when the dialogues get longer and more complex I will go down to recommended 1 lesson a day.
Today, I just completed lesson 3 and 4 and put the sentences into Anki. At about lesson 10-15 I might start using LingQ, we shall see. I don't want to get too ahead of myself.

Gracias chove
Today is day 3
Day 1: 51 minutes
Day 2: 40 minutes
Day 3: 50 minutes (started my stopwatch a bit late, so added a few minutes on to the original time).
15 minutes of Anki and 35 minutes of Assimil and lesson 4 and 5 are complete. I will put the vocabulary in Anki tomorrow when I wake up. I will then complete lesson 6 and look at the review lesson hopefully. Will hopefully be able to start using LingQ soon!
Total: 141 minutes // 2 hours 21 minutes. I am averaging 47 minutes a day.
27 days remaining

Re: 30 days of Spanish...
Best of luck to you! ;D I too am studying Spanish and I have found that it is not nearly as difficult as I though it would be. English and Spanish shares quite a lot of vocabulary with minor changes in form, but it's not hard to recognize how the words change. Sometimes I try to guess new vocabulary based on these similarities in vocabulary, which doesn't always work, but it's a fun way to try to expand what you want to be able to say.
Keep up the good work. With diligence, I think you will do great! Buena suerte!
