I haven't studied much if at all because I'm exhausted, and I've decided to just rest this weekend. So there's no real studying going on in the sense of me making vocabulary lists or whatever. I'm not even getting a move on with my studies because I really needed a break. So I've given it to myself.
One thing that's funny and that I want to tell you about today though is a thing that I do. Recently I've turned vegan (I was vegetarian before), and the one thing about veganism is that most of the time, eating out is horribly difficult. It's improving, but it's much easier for vegetarians here. So 99% of the time you're stuck cooking at home, which is cheaper anyway (and healthy to boot!). Now I actually do like cooking, and I'm a fan of exotic cuisines, so it's my life goal now to accumulate as many cool vegan recipes as possible to stay afloat in the modern world AND get all those juicy nutrients inside my body.
How does that tie in with language learning, you ask?
Well, most of the recipes I'm following are actually recipes in Spanish! I'm always on the lookout for good recipes, and recently I was given one for flautitas (Mexican filled tortillas) which I filled with sweet potatoes and a mix of veggies, served with a delicious salsa verde!. And right now I've got a boiling pan with a nice vegan paella! Basically, there are vegan variations of many classic recipes, either using substitute meat products or veggies, and then there are originally vegan recipes for a lot of things! Nowadays, with the internet, you can find loads of cool things to try. I tend towards loads of rice and beans dishes, because that's what I like, but you can find things for everything!
The funniest part about this that one of my exam topics was vegan gastronomy, so this new habit actually counted as studying!
So to everyone out there into gastronomy, whip out your cookbooks and your browser and get a-cookin'! Even if you're not vegan like me, you can still find a recipe for your favourite steak sauce or salmon fillets or whatever!
