I finished a Spanish book, a Taiwanese-Singaporean LGBT series, and I've been speaking Finnish. Multilingual week for a winner! I've also heard some Singapore-tinged Mandarin, which sounds like a funnier Taiwanese.
And now I'm moving on to a Chinese book, but in the English translation. Because I'm lazy.

I've been moving forward with Basque and Finnish, even though soon it will be crunch time for my studies and Spanish will take center stage again. I've continued watching the second season of Narcos (the Colombian accent is niiiice).
There isn't much else to say. It's hot as hell here and I don't function in the heat because I'm a polar bear.
Oh, and I went vegan. FINALLLY.

Re: Tea with Tarvos - Linguavaganza (ES, EUS, FIN and many more))! 2020s log
I haven't done much purposeful language study, but I did learn some more Finnish words, a whole lot of legal things in Spanish about family law (interpreting assignments are fun!) and I read a book by Mariángela Urbina Castilla (yes, the girl who presents the fantastic Youtube channel Las Igualadas) about the week she spent interned in a psychiatric hospital in Bogotá, Colombia. It was a very interesting analysis of "sanity" and mental health, as well as a very interesting reflection on Colombian society.
Las Igualadas is, in general, a Youtube channel I heartily recommend (it's a feminist channel based on discussing issues that occur in Latin America, above all, in Colombia), and it's in Spanish.
I should do my Basque homework tomorrow. I also bought a book called Enigmas de los Dioses del México antiguo by Sofía Guadarrama Collado, a Mexican historical novelist who focuses on the history of Mexico before the Spanish came. And she's a trans writer - probably one of the few Spanish-language writers I know that's openly a trans woman.
I've really been getting into Latin American Spanish (also due to watching lots of Narcos, which is set in Colombia). The reason I mention this is that of course I speak Spanish from Spain (that's where I learned, that's my frame of reference), but I feel it's very important to cover all bases when it comes to Spanish. Mexican, Ecuadorian, or Peruvian Spanish are all forms of Spanish. That said I won't ever get rid of my Spanish accent being what it is, but I think it's good to cover all the rest, too. All forms of Spanish are valid, and I'm very much in favour of that diversity.
Apart from that, I mostly speak English, Dutch, and Finnish next to Spanish at the moment. I don't even use Russian that much lately.

Not much is going on, but I did do a Russian refresher conversational lesson yesterday on iTalki and that went just fine so clearly my Russian isn't as enormously dead as I thought it was.

Ok guys. I have great news. I PASSED THE INTERPRETING EXAMS. I MUTHAFLIPPIN' PASSED THEM. After a year of toil and being really sick, passing those exams (which weren't easy whatsoever) is like a dream come true. My god, it's been a really harsh academic year on me and there definitely were points where I felt really low, but I got through the damn thing like the devilish little bastard I am.
Ok, we're not there yet, because there's still more work to do... portfolios and lagging assignments due to my illness... but they are not the most difficult part of this (that's the exams) and I have no doubt I will pass all that.
But I'm through, and that's amazing. I didn't expect to get through this at all at the beginning of the year.
As an aside, the head of interpreting told me she was really impressed by how I managed to hold my own this year.
So the only thing I have to say is:
Soy la puta ama.

I have not made much progress with Basque, but my Finnish is improving daily. Makes sense since I use it every day these days (I have set my PC facebook to Finnish and I speak it with my chica. Well, not exclusively, but I'd say it's about 75% English 25% Finnish but with a rising percentage of Finnish).
Mostly I'm gaining vocabulary. Some of the vocabulary I've learned recently is of the "why do you need to know that... but you do need to know that" kind. Here's some words I learned through conversation today:
Eilen = yesterday
Seksikauppa = sex shop
Se sopii = it suits you, it's ok, it's comfortable
Löytää = to find
ajatukseni = my thoughts
Ilmaista = to express
