Duolingo: 69 crowns; time & 6 stories
Memrise: Review verb conjugations & vocabulary
Podcast: Slow German mit Annik Rubens (16 mins)

I did a little listening of a podcast and audiobook which wasn't too difficult to understand. Otherwise minimal work.

Duolingo: 78 crowns; 5 stories
PTLab: Lesson #18
PMP Basic Portuguesse: Completed Chapter 10

I finally did another PortugueseLab lesson. It covered "usually doing something" using the verb costumar + infinitive. Easy concept. Also finished chapter 10 of PMP which covered the -ir verbs that are irregular in the 1st person. Also easy enough even if I couldn't always remember the conjugation while doing the exercises.

Duolingo: 110 crowns; skills: nature, feast
PMP Basic Latin: 2.1-2.2
Read: Iulia (Julia): Chapter I

I completely finished all levels of the duolingo Latin tree. Nice to have that out of the way. I promptly started PM Basic Latin doing only the first couple of exercises in Chapter 2. I have read the first few chapters of this in the past so skipped the first one on pronunciation since I feel comfortable with my pronunciation. Chapter 2 is on the present tense verbs in first, second and fourth conjugations. Again pretty straight forward even if not easy for me to remember. I also read the first chapter of Iulia. Previously I think I read the first 5-6 chapters but I'm starting over.

Book #93: Le cento migliori ricette di Cocktail by Luigi & Olga Tarentini Troiani. This is part of a series of books on different food subjects. There are 100 cocktail recipes. Mostly the classics. Quick and easy read. Just what I needed. I don't think there were more than a couple of unknown words in the entire book. I have others in the series that I bought a few years ago so will probably be reading them throughout the year.

Book #94: Torte salate e sformati di verdure by AA.VV. This book covered torte salate e strudel, pizze e focacce, quiche e crostate, sformati e soufflé and timballi e pasticci. In some cases there is very little difference between them. For example a sformato is similar to a soufflé but they don't fall. Some timballi were a type of vegetarian lasagne. These are all vegetarian recipes though it would be easy enough to add a little meat to most of them which would be my preference. While some of them sounded good I found many of them unappealing due to the specific vegetables used. As far as vocabulary I learned a few new words related to pastry making.

This book ended with the usual little dictionary of terminology.

I'm doing German for the 6WC though my original reason for focusing on it more than Portuguese no longer applies since we've had to postpone our Germany trip until 2021 because of the uncertainty around traveling during the pandemic. I started a new series on MHz Choice called Kommíssarín Lucas which I like. Finished Chapter 2 of PMP which covered conjugations of three irregular verbs.

I did most of chapter 3 of German Verb Tenses. This covered verbs who change their root in 2nd and 3rd person singular. In this case a to ä, au to äu and i to i or ie. It's pretty straight forward though difficult to remember all of the exceptions. It feels like German verbs have a lot more variation than Italian verbs even if they have fewer tenses overall. There was another exercise 3.8 that I didn't do because it was a long paragraph of fill in the bank with partial verbs or no verbs. I have no patience for that type of BS. I just want to practice my conjugations in a straight forward manner.

I started this book called Il Buongustare. It consists of 10 chapters and each chapter has two sub units at the B1 level and two at the B2 level. I did the first B1 in chapter 1 and found it easy. I think there was only one unknown word. I'm undecided if I should do all of the B1s and then all of the B2s or just do each chapter. Since each chapter covers a different broad subject it might be better to do the chapters in order. The sub units have a 1-2 page essay followed by 1-2 pages of exercises. The publisher Loesher has a few similar books. One is on fashion and one on the world of work so if I find this useful I may get those too since these days I'm just trying to keep increasing my vocabulary.

Chapter four of PMP covered separable and non-separable verbs. I don't remember ever covering this concept previously when I started up with German. At first it felt confusing but as I continued to work the exercises it became more understandable. I've made a point of examining the verbs when I do Clozemaster and a lot of the sentences are more clear when I read them than they were in the past. I finished up Die Toten vom Bodensee this weekend. I believe there is another episode in an unknown status so I'm hoping it will eventually be available on MHz Choice. I particularly like Nora von Waldstätten the actress who plays Hanna Zieler so I'll seek out other shows she's been in. I have listened to the podcast Slow German mit Annik Rubens. The podcast includes a partial transcript which I appreciate because even though I don't understand 100% of the podcast I find it helpful for my pronunciation.

Book #96: Come fare Liquori d'erbe by AA.VV. I originally thought this was a book of recipes for cordials/liqueurs. But is was more than that. About 40% of the book covered distilling. The recipes were organized in three distinct groups: cordials/bitters, flavored grappas and specialty drinks. The first groups used pure alcoho;, the second grappa and the last a selection of alcohol often with milk. There were a handful of recipes that I would gladly make.

In spite of the long weekend I didn't do much the last few days outside of German and reading Italian. I haven't been into studying lately and am mostly reading or watching series for entertainment. I haven't started a second Italian book because the one I'm reading is long and I've been reading in English too even though I previously had intended not to.

For PMP German Verb Tense, I completed unit five on modal auxiliaries along with Units 6-7 which where short. Unit 6 covered the differences between wissen (to know something as fact) and kennen (to be acquainted or familiar with person, place or thing. It is similar to Italian so wasn't too difficult. Unit 7 covered differences between legen/stellen (to put) and liegen/stehen (to be lying, lie vs to be, to stand upright). I didn't do as well with this unit but won't review it since I have several other grammar/verb books that I'll go through after I complete this one. Watched a couple of episodes of a new to me show Wisberg. Wisberg is a disbarred lawyer turned private detective. The show is decent in spite of being from '98. It doesn't feel overly dated.

I've also started back up with my Latin memrise courses.
