When I view this post on my Samsung Tab 4 10.1 the player disappears after a few seconds, but is fine on my notebook.

It works fine on my notebook computer. It's only on my tablet that the player disappears.

23 septembre 2015: Mon aventure fantastique français !

Postby tomgosse » Wed Sep 23, 2015 4:18 pm

Aujourd'hui, je suis très fatigué. Je ne sais pas quoi écrire.

So, I will write in English. Fatigué is a great word, because it describes the extreme tiredness I feel right now. I spent a lot of time this week at doctor appointments, and I have more than I want from now to the end of October.

But, I continue on with French. I haven't given up, but I have lightened up.
- I'm still watching TV5Monde daily.
- I continue to practice with Memrise and Duolingo, but it's only every other day now.
- I watch an episode of French In Action every other day, but I haven't opened the text or workbook in two weeks.
- I did get an encouraging message from Bylan about French In Action. Merci, mon ami.
- On his language log, Bylan, wrote, "I've finished Pimsleur 1 and I'm onto 2. It's great to have a way to express the past tense in French now, and it's liberating to be focusing on real grammar with Pimsleur rather than hammering the numbers over and over and over (that was painful)." That encourages me to keep moving forward with Pimsleur. I'm up to lesson 13.
- I did watch a documentary on the Legion Étrangère. No, I'm not going to join (too old, too fat, too sick). But, it is interesting watching how they teach new recruits French (you don't need to speak it when you join).

I spent some time experimenting with the [audio] and [soundcloud] tags. I found that they work well on my laptop computer with Windows10, but not on my Android tablet with Facebook. They will work with Chrome on the tablet.

Later today, or tomorrow, I am going to record myself reading French out loud and post it here. This is your only warning! :) Be prepared.

All the best,
Tom

25 septembre 2015 : Mon aventure fantastique français !

Postby tomgosse » Fri Sep 25, 2015 6:22 pm

Okay mon amis,

You have been warned! Here it is, me reading French. This is me reading the first part of a book called, Médor, un chien français. This is the third take, but there is no after recording processing. Sorry for the sibilants. I used a headset microphone and need to practice with the recording settings.

EDIT: I have removed the recording because it may be a copyright violation.

You have a typical english accent with an R and U that need to be improved, an L that needs to be softened a little, but otherwise it's rather clear, no need of the written text to understand you (except for the word "taille" where I had to read it)

Two or three words are not pronounced correctly: taille, jardin and tous.
- Taille is pronounced like in "Tyson" (not "teille")
- Jardin: it's the nasal vowel "in", not "ine" at the end
- Tous: here, you have to pronounce the final s.

Keep on the good work 8-)

Merci pour vos encouragements.

Hey tomgosse,

It's great to see you posting a sound recording! Thanks for sharing. I think it's a very good recording and as I'm not a native French speaker I'll trust (and I also agree) with Arnaud's observations.

Nicely done tomgosse. My advice is keep learning every single day (consistent effort is a major key to success in language learning, which i'm sure you're aware of) and always aim to improve on the day before if you can.

I'll mention accent as it's something I work on a lot, but some people don't mind accent (to a degree). In your sample your accent does not hinder understanding for almost all of the recording (except the few words Arnaud mentions). However if you do want to improve your French sound, then simply practise as you go the sore points with am of daily improvement. Great job!
