I've decided to participate in the 6 Week Challenge with German! This 6WC runs from November 1st until December 12th. I have dabbled with German in the past but that was years ago so I am very much a beginner in the language.
Resources / The Plan Deutsch Interaktiv is the main course I will be using. I will also give the Mission Berlin lessons a try because they sound fun although I doubt they will be very informative compared to a more traditional course or textbook. We'll see. Also by DW, the Nicos Weg lessons look like it could be useful.
I was looking at a couple of textbooks on Amazon too but I may wait to order one. If the Deutsch Interaktiv course can get me to an upper A2/lower B1 level, then maybe I can skip a beginner's textbook and get an intermediate textbook instead.
I have three bilingual English-German art books that I picked up over the years. I would be so happy if I could start reading one of these books during the 6WC.
My end goal for these six weeks is to get my German to an A2/low B1 level. Then I will look into getting an intermediate textbook, a grammar book and maybe start reading books in German.
I started off my frolicking into German by fighting with adobe flash before realizing it worked on a different browser just fine, and by watching a couple of episodes of Sophie - Braut wider Willen on youtube with English subtitles. I love historial dramas/period pieces so I am into this soap opera.
I also finished lesson 1 of Deutsch Interakiv.

And so, I'm going to start this 6 Week Challenge off with some Tokio Hotel! Guess how old I am lol. Music is actually a fun way to learn some random vocab words. It does have a Halloween vibe to it, doesn't it? Yes, Germany has a region called the Black Forest. I was actually reading about the ancient Gauls and their religion which lead me to Abnoba, the goddess of the Black Forest, which inspired the title of this log.

I hope you don't mind a small correction. "Liegen" doesn't really work in this context, literally you are saying "I'm laying in the northern US". It's fine if you use this verb it with a place or a city, then it means "to be located/situated", for example:
Meine Heimatstadt liegt im Norden der USA. (Heimatstadt = home town, home city)
If you want to speak about yourself as a person, you could use "wohnen" (to live):

I finished the Deutsch Interaktiv A 1.1 exercises. I hope to finish the A 1.2 exercises by the end of this 6 week challenge. I started the Nicos Weg lessons as well. They're pretty short but I feel like they are a good complementary set of lessons to be used alongside a main course/lessons. They are short but also engaging. I also like them because they are reinforcing what I'm learning from Deutsch Interaktiv and repetition is important for remembering things. I still wish the Deutsch Interaktiv lessons went into the grammar more but other than that I really can't complain. It's a good free resource. Once I stop being lazy I'll take a closer look at German grammar like I want to.
As it stands, I'm continuing with German after this challenge. I'm thinking of completing the A2 and B1 Deutsch Interaktiv courses, the Nicos Weg videos and the Mission Berlin lessons. I'll see where I'm at from there and hopefully try to find a B1/intermediate textbook plus a grammar exercise book. That's the plan for now.
This 6 week challenge has really just made me re-discover German music. I've been listening to old bands/singers I used to listen to years ago and also discovering new music. Here's a little word list from the song "Federkleid" by Faun.
