*Not sure about the German "Learn German" page, but my impression is it probably isn't listed there either. I think they are making Nicos Weg their flagship for learning German at the moment. So older stuff, like Deutsch, Warum Nicht?, is being sidelined.
I think they've chosen mobile phones as the target platform, and Warum Nicht was designed for radio.

The German version of dw.com does still offer Warum Nicht

I could see that. Seems everything is moving in that direction, for better or worse.

Thanks for the correction/clarification. I should have figured that, given the main page for Warum Nicht is in German and all.

    • Lektion 15
    • Lektion 16

  • Living German by Buckley & Coggle
    • Lektion 1
      • Reading
      • Grammar
      • Exercises

As can easily be seen, I went further off my intended target and primarily just listened to DWN, and started working through Living German instead of the vocabulary/exercises of DWN. I'm honestly not sure what I want to do with Warum Nicht, but for the moment I'm happy to passively absorb what I can from it while working through Living German. I may change my mind and use Warum Nicht as my main course again, but so far I'm happy just to run through the audio once, while referencing the pdf for the dialogues on the second retelling. Probably doesn't matter one way or another as long as there is forward movement, and things don't get bogged down in back and forth switches. I do feel more apt to use LG for the grammar/vocabulary/exercises/readings than WN. I feel like LG will give me more opportunity to actively use the grammar and vocabulary. Sure WN has vocabulary to learn and some exercises, but the bulk of the lesson is listening and comprehension (which certainly are important skills to develop!). Either way, I think I'll be using both in some combination going forward. Onwards and upwards!

Polish:
  • First-Year Polish - Swan
    • Lesson 1
      • Vocabulary
      • (Optional) Grammar
      • (Optional) Drills/Exercises

Irish:
  • Teach Yourself Irish (1960's) - Dillon & Ó Cróinín
    • Lesson 1
      • Vocabulary
      • (Optional) Grammar
      • (Optional) Exercises
    • Lesson 2
      • (Optional) Vocabulary
      • (Optional) Grammar
      • (Optional) Exercises

So, I technically did start the vocabulary for Lesson 1 of each text, but after one day of just learning 3 cards for each language I decided to suspend the decks. Too many pots on the stove perhaps? I used to be able to learn like 4-5 languages at once, but certainly not now while attending university. I'll revisit where things stand for these two later this Spring.

Forgot to update this a day or two ago. I'm still getting my new schedule down.

And for this week:
I'll keep at learning the new vocabulary for Lektion 2 (really, I think I'm still working through Lektion 1), and perhaps at least starting Lektion 3 in Living German. I'm going to try my best to balance out German and Greek while I have the opportunity, while Hebrew is painfully easy. It's not going to stay that way forever.

It's funny, but Irish is more and more on my radar as of late. I was having lunch with one of my professors and a few classmates and somewho the topic of languages came up (the class is on the Books of Samuel, and the professor also teaches the Hebrew course I'm taking). Not only did I learn some fun facts about a few of my classmates (one has Tamil as his mother tongue! Tamil has been on my radar for a little bit now because of another friend, but now it's two!) but the locals (i.e. Irish) were talking about Irish and how it's become ineffectively taught in comparison to other modern languages, and it's mostly bookish, etc. Interestingly one of them brought up the recent TG4 interview that was discussed here on the Celtic SG thread. I readily admit I'm largely ignorant to such things (I have enough on my plate with studies!). And I'm probably not doing the conversation justice, but it was cool to hear their perspectives.

I'm thinking I'll be busy over the summer. :P

This also turned up in my news feed this morning: 3 ways to reconnect with Gaeilge for Seachtain na Gaeilge on RTÉ.

Granted, I can't reconnect with what I barely had to begin with, nor am I going to Seachtain na Gaeilge (at least not this year), but it still might be an interesting read.

In case anyone is wondering, I'm not necessarily propagating any of the views expressed in these links. Just compiling a list of readings on the matter of Irish from Irish people. I feel it'll be good to understand at least a bit of the issues and what not. (Though I'm largely just relying on my news feed at the moment. :P )

Don't want anyone misconstruing the links. :)
