Yeah, I try to go every year. It was mostly the first part of the Rapenburg that was that crowded - after the Sieboldhuis it was a little better (but just a little). But yes, far too many people for my liking :| The Rapenburg is really not suitable for events like this.

Also, lots of reminders of which particular aspects of 'Japanese pop culture' (as interpreted by foreigners) I really, seriously can't stand  I went, ate, and left as quickly as I could. Happy to have had some takoyaki though, hard to come by in NL.

Still no sign of my Russian grade. *screams into the void*

24 May 2018 Кухня s1e6 25 minutes
24 May 2018 Кухня s1e7 25 minutes

This was not my best week, but I've got an excuse. Yesterday I had another non-language related challenge going on... I ran a half marathon! I had been training for this for a long time and was confident, but when the weather forecast for the weekend came in and the predictions ran up to 29 degrees Celcius I got nervous and wasn't really able to focus on anything else for the rest of the week. So a physical challenge became a mental one  But I'm happy to say I finished! (And I'm sore :P )

And now I'll be packing for Bratislava. I'm really excited! I wish I had done a little more Russian preparation beforehand (and I still might, tonight or tomorrow). And I wish I had more languages to contribute with at a decent level. I've only got Dutch, English, German and Japanese that I'm functional at, and then all the languages that I'm an extreme beginner in (Mandarin and Korean - if I even remember anything at all - and Russian) I'm probably going to be completely starstruck by all the hardcore polyglots

I'll be flying to Vienna on Wednesday early in the morning (and then taking the bus to Bratislava) and flying back Saturday night, so I'll only be at the Polyglot Gathering Wednesday-Friday. I'm looking forward to meeting everyone! Whoever wants to meet and have drinks, let me know :D

Still no grade for Russian class. This is a very special form of torture :?

[edit] Also also: I posted a short piece of Japanese writing on iTalki for corrections, but argh. The way iTalki handles corrections is very frustrating. It's really difficult to see at first glance what has been corrected. Some users use formatting (i.e. bold, strike, etc.) but many don't. I guess I'll stick to Lang-8 for corrections...

Four languages will do fine. I only had a few more at my first gathering and I was fine.

I hope for your sake you don't have to take the 7 am flight, haha. (If so, we're on the same damn flight).

Oh, but then you will be landing around the same time, I suppose? I plan to take the 9:50 Flixbus from the airport to Bratislava.
