Normal week

Postby alaart » Tue Feb 08, 2022 9:38 am

I did 2 language exchanges and studied what I noted and recorded there, confusion of the week was the following grammar:

가능한 한 빨리

I did half of a TOPIK I test exam, and man am I not ready for that. I marked everything I didn't know and still have to go through it and study those parts.

I am logging my studying in the 6WC, so far not many hours. I'm still a bit busy, but hopefully I can study more soon.

Lazy

Postby alaart » Sat Feb 26, 2022 11:48 am

Just posting because I am trying to post once per week and keep the log active.

I'm still doing the language exchanges, but all in all I was quite lazy this month. It's shameful to admit, but lets put it here for the sake of the log.
I mean 30 minutes here and there, 1 hour once or twice a week is not nothing, and I am making progress, but I used to study much more.

I am thinking about how I could reactivate that restless motivation I had a couple years ago. I'll be trying different things, also in other areas of my life like working out, and hope I can be productive again.

Re: alaart's log (Korean - back in Germany, page 16+)

I tried to study everyday for one week, and I managed 4 out of 7 days, then last week I only studied twice. But I'm getting there. Usually if I study I study longer, so I probably still study around 1 hour on average currently. I want to raise this, ideally to 3 hours once I have sorted out some more things in life.

I'm mostly working on daily speech in Korean, mostly videos of conversations. And I started to relearn the pronunciation rules and want to improve there, this is hard for me. I'm still talking with my 3 language exchange partners. I also spoke some Chinese and cooked some Chinese food again. So my usual activities, nothing new - but lets keep the log active.

So, I had a study break where I focused on other things for 2-3 weeks, and so I didn't post here. I still did Korean language exchanges and Anki, but nothing more.

But now this week, my health situation has gone south again, and I kind of can't do much but sit around. So I have been studying again. I watched the first episode of the Portuguese drama Girls from Ipanema or Coisa mais linda how it is called in Portuguese. I like it because it is about Bossa Nova, very beautiful. I also spoke Portuguese with my only friend from Brazil.

I'll meet a Dutch friend next week, and I have been watching Dutch youtube a bit, I also spoke with a Japanese friend. So I'm maintaining my core languages I guess. - Chinese is becoming inactive.

And now due to my chronic pain and sitting around, I don't know what to do, so in order to have some activity that keeps me from getting depressed I'm studying Korean. It's really just that, and activity to keep me sane. My aim is to study 3 hours a day again and develop a routine.

Haven't updated much. Not that much study, sometimes 2-3 days a week maybe, life is in the way or I do other things but I'm making an effort and I feel it is increasing and I'll slowly return to a daily study habit. It's a slow process.

I'm working on fixing my pronunciation problems in Korean one by one.

I also translated the second episode of the drama "One more time", the first I translated somewhere in January or so.

I reapplied for studying in Shanghai this year, but it will be unlikely due to the Covid situation.

I had surgery and had to take a break and recover for a week, but I'm learning again. I studied around 3 hours per day the last 4 days. So I hope I finally succeeded in making this a regular habit again.

I finished watching the 3rd episode of the drama One more time in Korean (with a lot of stops, dictionary, grammar look up), and studied most of the things I didn't know. It's a slow process but I'm getting there. I also studied some pronunciation.

Each episode is 30 minutes, so after one more I will be able to check of my first "film" for the Super challenge. 49 more to go then :D.

In June I will rest and be at home a lot, but in July I'll try to find some new native speakers. The language is quite complex, I won't be able to advance without the help of people I think.

I did a test exam of the Topik I, I did it very slowly, with a dictionary and it took me a couple hours. Maybe around 6-8 hours to finish, I split it over a couple days.

I think I understood all the content after looking some grammar and words up, but I still got 4 questions wrong. Now my plan is to do a couple more Topik I exams, to get faster at reading and understanding and cover all the core vocabulary that is required.

I also continued a bit translating the drama I was watching, it's going ok.

During my surgery break I lost two of my language exchange partners (I have one left), so I'll have to look for new ones. I feel I'm ready to reach the conversational level in Korean, I just need to be in touch with a couple of native speakers. But for now I'm studying with the test exams. One goal at a time.

These are not the exact ones I have, I think they changed the website but here. In Korea they are nice and give you the former tests from official sources.

My goal is still trying to get to 3 hours of study daily, which I'm still not managing to do.

This week it was just 10 hours, but last week was better with maybe 15. I can feel I'm making progress.

I'm trying out new language exchange partners (online), I'm reading texts on http://두루책방.com/ - I read one children story in grade 2 which was too easy, and another one in grade 3 which was a bit hard.

I did a second Topik I mock exam, and then a third. - Each test had some topics I'm unfamiliar with in terms of vocabulary. So there are still some holes. I usually get the correct answer once I look things up, but I hope I don't have to look up so much in the future.
