Bex, this is a very timely post on your Anki usage. I'm curious how it works out for you and if its worth the effort. Keep us posted. And more importantly....keep up the hard work!

Thanks MonoDeano, I will keep you posted. So far so good after 13 days.

I am deliberately maintaining very relaxed, minimal usage, which appears to be the opposite of how most people start with Anki.

My stats so far are...

REVIEW TIME
Days studied: 100% (13 of 13)
Average for days studied: 6.8 minutes/day
ADDED
Total: 55 cards
Average: 4.2 cards/day

My only difficulty has been stopping myself from add more and more cards each day but I am determined to keep my average new cards low and try to review everything each day.

I am not sure why it is so compelling to add more cards all the time to Anki but I shall resist. I want to see if keeping the daily usage time low improves my long term usage.

I currently have 1379 unseen cards in this deck so it's going to take months to get through them all :)

Ok, this is interesting. It goes really well with my goal of trying to avoid burnout and just to keep a steady march forward. Thanks for sharing Bex!

Going OK so far...
Unlimited Spanish Podcasts I have listened up to 47 so far, and most of them twice now.

Pages read last week around 64.

Super challenge progress so far: 15 books and 15 films.

Anki Stats:
REVIEW COUNT: Days studied: 100% (21 of 21)
Total: 711 reviews. Average for days studied: 33.9 reviews/day
REVIEW TIME: Days studied: 100% (21 of 21)
Average for days studied: 7.6 minutes/day
ADDED: Total: 106 cards. Average: 5.0 cards/day.

I have again managed to refrain from binge adding cards to Anki and somehow reviewed every day so far. I have settled at keeping my new cards average at around 5/day, which is keeping my review time under 10 minutes.

At this rate I may be able to continue with Anki for a while...I think.

I have started watching Avatar: The last Airbender on Netflix. I watched episode 1 with Spanish audio three times; once with Spanish subtitles, then with English subtitles and then once without subtitles this morning.

It was interesting to note my comprehension improve between the first and the third watch.

I followed pretty well on the first watch, a few bits of missing vocabulary here and there I would estimate around 80% comprehension but it rose to at least 90% by the third viewing. Maybe 10 or so words I missed or didn't know.

It's a lot easier for me to follow than the adult series I have attempted to watch on Netflix in the past, I think I'll watch Avatar when I have free time but still try and keep reading as my main focus at the moment....maybe moving onto Avatar more regularly when I've finished listening to the Unlimited Spanish podcasts.

It was a nice change to watch Avatar this morning and really encouraging to be able to understand so much of it, especially without subtitles...even if it is for 7 year olds!

I shall keep plodding on...

Last week's plodding...

Unlimited Spanish Podcasts I got bored at 47 and swapped my playlist. I only managed 3 hours of listening last week but I'm still concentrating on my reading at the moment so 3 hours is OK.

Pages read last week: around 91 pages....so a good week for reading.

Super challenge progress so far: 17.7 books and 19 films.

I am determined to read my 100 books for the SC but I find it hard to find the time to sit down and read. So after I've read 100 books, I'm going to switch to TV and listening as my main focus, because listening is just much easier for me to fit into my day.

Anki is still very easy to manage everyday at this slow pace, 16 mature cards and nearly a 1 month streak.

Anki Stats:
REVIEW COUNT: Days studied: 100% (28 of 28). Total: 1016 reviews. Average for days studied: 36.3 reviews/day
REVIEW TIME: Days studied: 100% (28 of 28). Average for days studied: 7.9 minutes/day
ADDED: Total: 141 cards. Average: 5.0 cards/day

Netflix/TV: Watching random stuff. At the moment I am enjoying just watching Netflix and TV etc, when I feel like it.

I am noticing an improvement in my listening/TV comprehension, it's not much; the odd word here and there but generally I am able to follow what's going on much more clearly than I could a couple of months ago.

It feels like when I watch TV it is slowly, slowly unscrambling in front of me. I know I still have a long, long way to go but I finally feel like the time I'm spending reading, listening and Anki(ing) might finally be starting to move me forward again and pull me out of this stinking stagnancy I've been stuck in for most of this year.

Good days and bad days

October Super Challenge monthly update.

Total so far: 19.5 books & 20.4 films.

October is the highest amount so far and it's getting easier :D

How do you feel about your reading and listening skills at the moment, let's say compared to 1 year ago. In terms of translating in your head, level of frustration, level of enjoyment, etc.
