Last year the Dutch national elections were held, and the Danish TV channel TV2 decided to play a little joke: they decided to read out the news item on the Dutch elections in Dutch, because, as they said "your language sounds so nice!"
The Dutch broadcaster NOS replied with a thank you read out in Danish, and said that "since your election is in two years, we'll already get to work on our Danish!"

I don't know what got into the Danish heads, but they must have had a lot of fun with this behind the scenes.

We all know they're different...didn't we have a youtube link in here some time ago with an interviewer asking a bunch of Belarusian folks if they spoke Belarusian?!

You're not a C1 (or B1 or whatever) if you haven't tested.

Re: Danish news... presented in Dutch!
At the risk of "explaining the joke", I wasn't suggesting that Belarusian and Russian were one and the same, but alluding to Russian being the default language of the public sphere and mainstream media in Belarus, with Belarusian-language media mostly serving a niche audience. Hence, "Belarusian news presented in Russian" is already the norm rather than an exception.IronMike wrote:We all know they're different...didn't we have a youtube link in here some time ago with an interviewer asking a bunch of Belarusian folks if they spoke Belarusian?!

Re: Danish news... presented in Dutch!
Dat was inderdaad heel lekker ... But now we know they can do it, the big question is why they don't do it EVERY time there is an election somewhere...

Re: Danish news... presented in Dutch!
The puns are a bit ruined once you realize that Dutch is "Nederlandsk" in Danish. Actually, it is some variation of "Nederlands" in most languages - English seems to be the exception.
