Ditto! As it happens, yesterday, there was a minor tremor when one of bookcases partially collapsed under the weight of my language books, I have so many of them that I stack them two and three deep. My wife entered the room as I was placing the books in small piles on the floor, she have me “the look” and left the room without saying a word. Now, that’s scary!!!

I'm in and I'll say I want the Irish book, even though Cornish is intriguing.

As you may or may not know, I have been studying Welsh and the Celtic languages have suddenly become very interesting to me. Is Celtic even the right word? I had a long night last night and didn't get much sleep. I'm sleepy and cranky and not concentrating all that well. If I had to give a good reason for wanting to learn Irish it would be that my wife and I are hoping to make a trip to Ireland and Wales in 2020. How sweet would it be to be able to converse, even if only a little bit, in both of those languages.

But let's be realistic. The important thing here is that I don't need to be studying any more languages.

1) I can't imagine trying to maintain more than two languages.
2) I'm not where I want to be with Welsh.
3) Welsh has been brutal for me. I'm guessing that Irish would also be brutal.
4) Maybe the most important reason of all...(drum roll)…(dramatic pause)...learning another endangered language seems like torture for the sake of torture.

If I win I'm going to have to figure out a way to haunt you IronMike!

Irish was definitely harder for me than Cornish, but pretty much only because of the orthography. Cornish is more straightforward as far as spelling/pronunciation goes.

And haunt away! I could use some friendly ghosts in my life.

I'm interested in Cornish. I'm a corn-on-the-cob when it comes to language learning. A little salty (bitter), yellow-bellied, and my lack of experience often gets me speared on this forum. But really, I'm interested in that Cornish by correspondence course and wondering if one of the books @IronMike has is from that course he took part in.

I would love an Irish book. I have no connection to Ireland or any Irish heritage I'm aware of, and never had any strong desire to visit, but I always feel the need to throw myself into a ridiculous challenge, so I'm determined to understand this weird language before I die.
