I love the sound of Nguni languages (e.g., Xhosa, Zulu, Ndebele, Swati) and Zulu's on my wish list! Thanks for the link, Jaleel10. :)

I noticed that in several of the languages the years seem to be expressed in English (e.g. 1999 was spoken as "nineteen ninety nine"). I wonder why that is?

In her speech to the Polyglot Gathering the lady form uTalk mentioned that some languages have such a cumbersome way of saying numbers that native speakers sometimes prefer to switch to english.

Oh all right, not that much like Italian, and in any case things sound very different to a native speaker :) There were moments, mostly at the ends of utterances, that did genuinely reminded me of Italian though.
