Hello! I’ve been reading this forum since 2015 (and before that, the HTLAL forum since 2005), and I decided it’s time to become more active on here and make a language log as well.

I tried to log in recently and I realized I have actually lost my Language Learner's account I signed up in 2015. I can't remember which e-mail I used. :D  :o . I didn't bother to ask rdearman, because I have been a lurker anyway.

I have met some some language enthusiasts such as Richard Simcott, Alex Rawlings etc before and hopefully I will continue meeting other enthusiasts. Who knows I might see some of you in any gatherings in the future?

Greetings! I have been reading the forum for some time now and I have decided it is time to crawl out of my cave and say hello. I am a native Czech speaker, my strongest TLs are English and French. I have been learning a few others too but my knowledge of them is still poor. I am also going to start my log soon, so I will reveal more. I am really glad I have found this forum because it is full of very useful info and advice on language learning. When I see so many of you knowing so many languages I feel very inspired to devote a lot more time to studying. Good day!

Hello everyone, i'm from Brazil and my objective in the moment and in the 2019 year is become a fluent in english. I don't understand all of this language but, i understand a little when i see videos or interviews -- but i only understand all if leave the subtitles active.

My idea in the moment is acquire vocabulary and learn new words to in near future i became a speak.

I'll use the english as a key to learn new languages in the future. Because my focus is read many books and learn about others cultures in the world.

And i like subjects as literature, philosophy... and in Brazil it not is interesting for most people. So, i must seek this in other cultures.

I hope to count on the help of all.

Bye.

Hi all, I've been lurking on the original HTLAL forum for a couple years, and now I've decided to start posting on this website.

I'm currently a Canadian who's trying to learn Korean, and dabbling a bit in French. I can generally understand what's going on in tv shows, but I still don't understand the small bits here and there. For news, I probably only get about 10-20% depending on the topic and jargon being used.

Hope to see some serious development in the new year. :D

Edit: After posting the above, I realized that this thread, too, is in an English Room Area of this forum. So this is the translation:
Hi, but I don't seem to say "welcome" to you for a second time ;). [Because I already did so in this very thread]. Did you mention FR and EN as an example only, or would you prefer not to look at all at the 3ulum ("knowledges") of other foreign languages? And for your information, this thread is about introductions, no doubt. But as for any long answer, no matter if it would be written by e.g. yourself, or someone else [who is replying], the moderation (team) prefers that this would be somewhere else.

Hi,

I just signed here few minutes ago, so I'll make a little introduction :) I'm a french guy who really like others languages but who is also a great procrastinator. Thus I'm looking some new way to exchange around languages and keep a high motivation. I try to learn spanish by myself since two years now and I fell in love with dutch few months ago. Furthemore I know some basic german thanks to the school, even if I have lost almost everything now.
My goals are to improve all of that, before thinking to start learning some new languages (for instance russian).

I would like to keep improving my english too. Even if I understand almost everything, there are still some words that I don't know and it happened to many often to my mind, that tough time, when I speak with a fluent person and I don't understand everything, so I just smile, laugh and say "yes that's true"

So, I'll continu to explore this forum before maybe starting a challenge or something like that :D

Hope I'll have the oportunity to speak with you.

Hi everyone,

My name is Dylan. I'm from the United States, where I grew up in a monolingual English-speaking household. I'm 23 years old, and I'm currently a graduate student. I speak English and Russian, and study Ukrainian. I have studied Russian for five years now, including 1.5 years living in Russia. Previously, I have studied Latin, French, and Italian, and I hope to continue studying each of them to varying degrees at some point in the future.

I love history, and one of my primary reasons for studying foreign languages is that it grants me access to a wider variety of primary and secondary sources for my research. Like many of you, I'm also motivated by my love for traveling, and the intrinsic desire to study languages because it's fun!

I have long dreamed of studying Mandarin and many other languages, and I hope to learn at least some of them at some point in the future.

I rarely contribute to the forum, but have been a consistent observer ever since the days of HTLAL.
