The notion of i+1 refers to stuff just above your level. That's what Krashen recommends.
If you're really impatient you can try parallel texts or LR But that's easier in a more transparent language, of course (or if you already know German/French/Greek/Latin...)
What have you learned about language learning in the last two years?

Re: What have you learned about language learning in the last two years?
My experience from the past 2 years have been chaotic and I've learned a lot from it. From it I have learned:
-Linguistic language families, their branches and how they relate
-My geography has actually improved, especially learning which languages are spoken where
-That one shouldn't learn a language just because its useful
-Nor that one should learn a language just because its heritage
-Its okay to give up (ie. time sink fallacy)
-Spaced repetition is better than completing a lesson once and moving on
-Understanding and speaking are too different skills and both need to be practiced
-That there's a difference between oral and written languages, often the way we write is arbitrary

Put in general terms... I've learned how to learn one language to an advanced level.
Now I just need to learn how to replicate that with several more languages without losing the first one over the next ten years or so
