I found a picture of this old book. And am strongly curious regarding the text. Can anyone recognize the language and its origins?
Thanks,
Can anyone identify this language?

Re: Can anyone identify this language?
It's been a while since I've looked at the language, but it looks like it might be Avestan script.

Re: Can anyone identify this language?
It looks like a script that evolved from Phoenician or Aramaic (and thus related to Arabic, Hebrew, etc), because I feel like I recognize lamed, mem, and shin types of letters. For example, Mandiac. I initially thought it was Syriac, but now I don't think so. I really has notes of Arabic in it.
EDIT: Can you please provide some text about the textbook and/or the picture? Is the text carved into stone? Any idea of the age of the text?
EDIT: The above guess of Avestan is certainly a good lead, if not the correct answer.

It looks like the Avestan alphabet although I don't know if that proves it is Avestan as alphabets are often used by more than one language.
