I picked creative writing, because of your statement “I don’t like learning languages for the sake of learning languages: I like using them.” I can also relate to this sentiment. Lately I’ve considered resurrecting my rusty intermediate languages, because I got the groundwork set up, I just need to build on them. Being a beginner and trying out languages to “find the right fit” is tiring.

I can also relate to the need to creatively write. ;) One of my projects is finishing up the manuscript for my sequel comic (it’s a doozy!)

I picked Russian, because you mentioned that Russian would be very useful for you and you have access to native speakers.

Some things to consider are:

1. Which one would be the most useful to you?
2. Which has the best instructor?
3. What is your favorite country?

I plan to go to China, so I and my husband is learning in yoyo, my 6 years old son is learning in Lingo Bus.

I vote for whichever one you want to do most, since if you aren't motivated, it won't work.

I voted for "all German all the time" because if you can really do that, it's an opportunity for great improvement.
However, aside from German, all other projects are compatible so you can pick 2-3 of them. for example you might be able to handle no more than 30-60 minutes of Russian per day, then you can do some English writing or work on your German/Spanish. Or you can combine Russian and French but then realistically you probably won't have much time/energy for other languages.

I think the choice of language directly depends on your goal of studying. So, why you decided to learn German and Russian? You want to find the job related to these languages or because you want to visit Germany and Russia?

Personally, I voted for French, because I am learning it myself and find it very interesting. I think French is very simple for people whose native tongue is English and you can speak it in many countries (Canada, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Belgium etc.). It is just my opinion, but if you are interested, I can recommend you good sources and websites able to help you to improve your French.

Anyway, as I already said, it depends on your goal of learning.
