Good question.
Intellectual and cultural greed?
Wanderlust has destroyed my efforts in the past. This time I am being practical and learning from mistakes, and only studying German, a single language that I may actually use in my life.
And yet I keep thinking, Yiddish, Yiddish! I don't know where they come from, I really don't!

I use Assimil right now as a starting point, but at the same time I am building the foundation for further studies of German.
