Christmas carols

Postby DaveBee » Sun Dec 03, 2017 10:22 pm

Some national broadcasters join together for a Christmas Carols concert every year: Christmas around Europe. Some carols in English, some in other european languages.

In the UK this is broadcast by BBC Radio 3. I've just looked through the programme listings for this year (I always seem to miss it!).

It's on Sunday 17th December 2017:
Ian Skelly presents Radio 3's annual journey around Europe for a sequence of live and specially recorded concerts. The day begins live at Kallio Church in Helsinki for a programme of music for organ and wind quintet. Then to St Ulrich's Church, Vienna, where the Vienna Chamber Choir perform traditional Christmas songs.

1.05pm LIVE from Kallio Church, Helsinki
Stravinsky: Pastorale for soprano and wind quintet
Trad arr Ahmas: Finnish Christmas songs
Gaston Litaize: Variations on a Christmas song from Anjou
Sibelius: 5 Christmas Songs Op.1 arr for soprano and organ
Trad arr Ahmas: Finnish Christmas songs
Jan Lehtola (organ)
Zagros Wind Quintet

2.00pm from St Ulrich's Church, Vienna
Schein: Ich bin die Wurzel des Geschlechtes David (No.24 from Israelis Brunlein)
Brahms: 'O Heiland, reiss die Himmel auf' - Motet, Op 74 No 2
Trad arr Bohme: Maria durch ein Dornwarld ging
Trad arr Reiter: Kommt's her, ihr Hirten all zusamm'
Tra arr Hemedinger: Es bluh'n drei Rosen
Reger: Es kommt ein Schiff geladen
Trad arr Gjeilo: O Come, O Come, Emmanuel
Vienna Chamber Choir
Youth Choir Academy, Vienna
Michael Grohotolsky (conductor).

Always a nice event, though I prefer the toy train exhibits Christmas always brings around.
