https://www.nytimes.com/2017/11/02/maga ... glish.html has some interesting things to say about Emily Wilson's new version, including all the different choices that past translations have made for polytropos/πολuτροπον in the first line: "what unites them is that their translators largely ignore the ambiguity built into the word they’re translating."

I particularly liked her thoughts on what a translation should do: "all translations are interpretations.” The expected criticism that she's not always following the literal dictionary translations of words would definitely be misplaced, especially in literary translation. Word-for-word glosses tend not to be very enjoyable to read.
