Free Review Copies, The Little Prince Bilingual Series

Postby davidzweig » Mon Sep 11, 2017 4:02 pm

I haven't been around on this forum much, but I was an active member on the HTLAL forum in previous years, with the same username.

In 2011, I published a French/English bilingual edition of 'The Little Prince' with my own translation, a special layout and audio recordings on CD.

The project was quite successful, and I recently finished a new edition, with a revised translation, and 3 further editions for Spanish, German and Italian. Amazon has, or will shortly have stock.

EDIT: worldwide postage is now FREE!
I'm happy to send you a copy of one of the books for the cost of postage (3 Euros, worldwide). In return, I ask you to leave an honest review (even a brief one) on Amazon. These are important and useful for potential buyers.

To get a copy, instructions are on this link: https://goo.gl/forms/wJMq2nRsUjiRn7Bf2

Some more information:

The books have a special layout that allows you to follow along in both languages, and quickly find the translation for any sentence. The layout is created by a program I wrote, I will write an article about it on 'hackernews' shortly. I hope to open-source it at some point. You can see a sample here: http://smallworld.press/samples/FR-EN%20sample.pdf

The audio is available for free download on http://smallworld.press

I am working on a few other language projects too. Currently, a small and inexpensive audio player (device) for language study.

I appreciate any emails, you can write to me at david at-symbol smallworld dot press

Best Wishes.

David

Only 10 people requested books. Hmm, ok, if you fill out the form, I'll send you a book, free postage. :-)

Here's the link again: https://goo.gl/forms/wJMq2nRsUjiRn7Bf2

The books are really very nice, I don't think you'll regret it.

I'll refund those who already paid for postage, but you will still receive your book.

I was curious about your language background, but couldn't find anything about you on your profile here or on your website, and I couldn't find any davidzweig on HTLAL. Where can I find more about your language and translation background, please?

Apologies, it turns out my username was DavidW on HTLAL. I wrote about my language studies here, although the last post was in 2010: http://how-to-learn-any-language.com/fo ... =8534&PN=2 In the years since, my interests have shifted and broadened somewhat, and my perspective has changed; language study has become less of a focus in my life, although I continue to live in different countries, Hungary and the Ukraine in particular, and travel fairly often. I work with software and electronics. I hope this at least partially satisfies your curiosity,. :-) Feel free to message me.

I made a technical article (for the site 'hackernews') about the software algorithm used to perform the layout for these books, if anyone is curious. http://smallworld.press/show_hn.html

The idea is great, but The Little Prince is very much the wrong book, as it's one of the few stories where the audio can't be used without the book (because it keeps talking about pictures) and I would want to be able to relisten on an MP3 player or phone after first reading with the book.

I assume from the fact that you mention the cost of printing that you're not using print-on-demand any more, so the images are of a better quality than in the first edition...?

Thanks very much for doing this David. Personally, I love the selection of The Little Prince as the subject matter of your work - the style of writing provides a useful text particularly for those at/near the beginning of a language. I'm looking forward to giving your English/Spanish version a try in the future.

@Cainntear: Happy to see you're still on the forum. :-) There are some references to the illustrations, particularly in the first two chapters, but I can't really see an issue. The book was never print-on-demand. If you'd like to examine the current edition, you're very welcome to a copy, and to post your comments.

@lavengro: Thank you. If you'd like a copy (or two), just fill out the form. :-)
