Hi,
One advantage of learning new languages is that we get access to new music and songs, and certain languages are better than others for this purpose.
I remember people learning how to understand series in a new language through subtosrs. I think the same method can be achieved with songs since lyrics and translations are easily available. It requires some work but songs are better than series because they can be listened many and many times also during other activities.
I wonder if someone already tried this approach with a new language and wants to share the outcomes or is willing to experiment or simply wants to give his opinions about pros and cons of such methods.
Thanks in advance

Hi Stefan, thanks for your post, I find it very valuable. It looks like someone else did it before me, but I have the impression that it hasn't be used to start a new language, but rather to improve one.
I would like to here zemmonkey's and other people's opinion and experience.

I really enjoy my language cards because I chose songs that I wanted to learn and were fun. However, as language learning tools, I'm a little disappointed for a few reasons. Some of the songs I chose were poor choices as they were highly repetitive and used language that was structured with a lot of slang and improper grammar. Many duplicate cards were created.
But I still use them!
So, as I move forward, I'll probably try to be more selective of the songs used. There is a lot of great content available and I just chose the music I like without necessarily focusing on readability.
Other than the post I made on how to use the tools, make sure you:
Use a sequence field - useful for sorting reviews in Anki
Use a tag field - if you ever merge your decks, this field will allow filtering and separation later
Import using HTML checked for <img src="whatevername.jpg"> image fields so that you don't have to edit those manually afterwards
Keep a copy of your output - even if it takes space, store is somewhere. Anki will at one point or another mismanage your media files and you'll want to reload or do something with those source files (I've lost a lot of mine...)
If you have any issues using the tools - send me a pm or post in my log. glad to help.
